InactiveElijah’s mom has been put him to sleep a few times on his back, not in the bouncer or carseat recently. he has done pretty well.
Have you moms seen any problems or when do you or did you decide to try
them on their backs when it seemed their reflux is/was in control.I am a little worried..when I reflux it is in my sleep and I wake up
coughing chunks of food and acid out of my lungs. I can not even talk.
The last time it happpened my husband and son were awake and were like
“Are you ok, are you ok.” and I couldn’t answer. Now as an adult I can sit or stand up and force myself to cough it all out, but I worry about my boo baby.
Should I be?

InactiveMarisa has slept flat basically her whole life. She always rolled off
the incline and hated any sort of wedge/sling. Until she learned to
roll we put her on her side in a sleep positioner to keep her there and
it worked great (we switched sides). When she learned to roll we weaned
her off the positioner and started putting her in on her side or tummy.
Now I put her in on her back and she always rolls onto her side or
tummy to fall asleep. Rarely do I find her on her back – maybe 1 out of
100 times.May 31, 2006 at 1:36 pm #8858Anonymous
Inactivesusan, i, personally would feel more comfortable sleeping a reflux baby on their stomach. somewhere, a long time ago, i posted a link to the recommendations of the college of pediatrics, which stated that reflux babies do better sleeping on their stomachs.

KeymasterThis is from the American Academy of Pediatrics & how they recommend that tummy sleeping is best for GERD babies. http://www.aap.org/new/sids/question.htm (thanks Sherry & Christine!)

InactiveThanks all, I’ll let mom know and she can decide. He is able to turn himself over, but I don’t know if he does it at night.

InactiveIf you are uncomfortable with tummy sleeping, I would keep the incline sleeping going for a while….no harm in keeping up a good thing, right? You also want to make sure that the healthy esophagus and or healing that’s happened there isn’t compromised by being flat again. Can you do on the tummy and inclined? I don’t know what the peds have to say about that.
Every baby is different and I had a horrible sleeper, so this is coming from someone who feels like, if it’s working and they are sleeping, don’t rock the boat too soon!!
