Inactiveour original dose from Dr phillips was 24 mg of prevacid-8mg 3 times. we mixed 8 of the 30 mg capsules with the caracream and made a 3mg/ml suspension. then i gave 2.67 ML 3 times a day.
then, i upped to to 27 mg a day which was 9 mg 3 times. this was easy for me to figure out and we are giving 3 ML 3 times.
say i have to up his dose again sometime-how do i figure out the ML amount? say if we went to 30 mg, what would i give him?
im terrible with math stuff..thanks!!

Keymasterif you keep the solution to be 3mg/ml
& you want to give 30mgs a day, then you’d give
3 doses of 3.3mls a day
or
2 doses of 5mls a day

InactiveAre you guys using the caracream JR kits or the bigger bottles? Just wondering. How did Dr. Phillips tell you to prepare them in the bottles that he gave. I thought that I could figure it out myself easily, but then when I asked Joel, he told me that I wasn’t doing it right because there’s some wierd thing that you have to remove some liquied to make it more concentrated.
You’re right, to make a 3 mg/ml solution, you add 8 of the 30mg capsules. What Laura told you is right.
But I just wanted to add that if you are currently giving 3ml three times daily, that’s not enough per dose to have enough buffer. Joel told me each dose had to be 3.5ml or more to ensure that there was enough buffer per dose.

Inactivehmmm well dr phillips told me to start on 2.67 ml
we are using the caracream jr kits-is that what you have?
we have a therosol bottle that is buffer which breaks down the beads and then we pour that mixture into the caracream bottle. maybe that method does have enough buffer?

Inactivelaura-how do you figure that out? i just want to know for future dose increases….

InactiveI don’t know why he told you that Natalia. Wierd. Because Joel told me that the JR kits (the same thing that you have) have more buffer than the CaraCream (adult) kits. But he said that for the jr. ones you have to give at least 3.5ml per dose, and that the big bottles, you need to give even more per dose. You might want to double check that. We started out on 24mg per day. We had it made at a concentration of 3mg/ml, and I gave her two doses- each one was 4mg. When I asked Joel if I could give it as 3 doses, he said that each dose would be too small and wouldn’t have enough buffer. When I went up to 30 mg/ml, he told me that I could do 3 doses a day that way because each dose would be 3.3 ml, which is still not “technically” enough, but that would be close enough that it should still be okay.
To figure out how to increase the dose:
Your suspension is currently made so that it’s at 3mg/ml.
3mg/1ml= 24mg/ X ml
In other words, if you want to give 24mg a day of a 3mg/ml suspension, then you need to give 24 divided by 3, which is 8 ml a day. Divided into 3 doses, then each dose is 2.67 ml.
The same goes for any amount you want to give. If you want to give 30mg per day, then you calculate:
3mg/1ml= 30mg/ X ml
In other words, if you want to give 30 mg a day of a 3mg/ml suspension, then you need to give 30 divided by 3, which is 10 ml a day. Divided into 3 doses, that’s 3.3 ml. For two doses, it’s 5 ml per dose.
Not sure if that makes sense (or makes things worse). I’m not suggesting that you increase your dose, just answering your question. But if you want to change the concentration itself, then you’ll have to speak to marci-kids because there’s some strange method that involves removing some of the solution from the Therasol bottle.
Good luck.

InactiveI don’t know. That’s frustrating. I would just keep doing what Dr. Phillips told you. Especially because it seems to be working. Then I’d double check next week with Dr. Phillips. (I’m sure if that’s what he told you to do, then that’s what’s right, after all, he did develop the product).
