InactiveI called my ped today and she won’t even hear anything about giving him more. She said 7.5 mg is the most she will prescribe. Nice. And I got my appointment scheduled with the GI but its not until Jan 9. So we get to just deal with this for another month. UGHHHHH. My husband is supposed to be home on Christmas Eve….with any luck! At least then I will have someone here with me to help keep me from going crazy~!
Today was another stuggle with eating. And when he does want to eat he never eats more than 4oz at a time. Its like he has a “full” botton that shuts down his throat. Whereas before this guy had to be cuttoff at 7oz. Its strange, sometimes I almost feel like its his belly that hurts rather than his throat. He seems to bare down when he is pushing the bottle away. I just want him feeling good for once. There is hope….right???
I am very eager to see the GI. I am hoping he can figure the little guy out. And hopefully it won’t take him too long. Thank you all for your comments and suggestions. It really does help to know I am not the only Mom going through this.December 8, 2006 at 8:34 am #19801hellbennt
Keymasterfax the GI office & explain that you have an appt but in the meantime could the GI consult w/ the ped & prescribe a higher dose?
state facts. make requests (not ask).
fact: baby’s age, weight, symptoms, current meds & dose
reason for request: research shows that pediatric dosing for prevacid falls into the range of 1.5mgs per kilo – 3 or even 3.5mgs per kilo (this is a conservative request- I’m sure marci-kids recommends much more, but if you could even just get 3mgs per kilo it’d be a start, you know?)
state fear of beginning of eating aversion.
THANK DOCTOR!!!
if the dr won’t do this w/o seeing your baby maybe this will help get in sooner? also ask in the fax to be seen earlier- you’ll take any free moment, any time

ps: can you put info in your signature? I can’t keep all these cuties straight

InactiveA month is an awfully long time to wait when you’re baby is in pain.

Myles’ doctor (our family physician) was quite adamant as well that she would not raise his dose beyond the 7.5 mg. I live in a small town and the only Pediatrician in town will only prescribe Zantac. I’d have to leave the state to find a Ped GI, so I felt that I was going to have to do everyting I possibly could to persuade our current doctor. I called her continually to tell her how badly Myles was doing. I faxed the marci kids info to her and called again and again, and she finally agreed to try it because in her words “these are not toxic drugs.” So, it was part of the marci-kids info that convinced her….the part that describes how non-toxic and safe these meds are.
I’d keep trying. Laura’s suggestion about a nice letter/fax is a good idea. If you can’t convince your current doctor and you can’t get into the GI earlier, is there a family doctor you can try? It seems quite a few of us have had better luck with family doctors because they see reflux patients frequently and they are more familiar with the PPI meds.
I’m glad to hear dh is coming home for Christmas.

Good luck and please keep us posted.

Inactivei agree. there is no way i would let my baby suffer for another month. all that acid coming up can damage the esophogus and it has led to feeding aversions for several babies on here.
who knows, he may be mspi as well, because many babies with reflux have mspi too.
and just so you know, there are several moms here who have had to adjust the meds themsevles, as no doc would listen. then when their babies improved, the doc. had no choice but to adjust it.
anyhow, though, i would def. fax over the marci-kids.com dosign info. marci kids is dedicated to the latest research in infant reflux, and they really do know what they are talking about.
7.5 mg just sounds absolutely pointless to me

InactiveJust thought I’d chime in here. Hailey was on 7mg of prilosec initially at two months, and it did help a bit, but really not enough. I was never able to get the doctors to up her dose that much- the doctors here wouldn’t follow the marci-kids information. But even our children’s hospital recommended 1.4mg/kg twice daily. See if you can get them to up her dose. If not, then I would also call the GI’s office and explain the circumstance, and see if they can fit you in sooner (hard, I’m sure, around the holidays) or to put you on their cancellation list.
My daughter has a bad feeding aversion. Her reflux was never well controlled- her dose wasn’t high enough (not that I’m sure that would have stopped a feeding aversion) but also her med wasn’t being prepared properly. If compounded, make sure it has NO flavourings, and has at least 16.8 percent sodium bicarbonate, AND that each dose is at least 3.5ml. That’s the only time I found that it actually worked.
Good luck.

InactiveWell, last night was our worst one yet. Hunter was up most of the night crying like he was in pain. Although it seemed more stomach related to me. Then this morning he had mucus in his stool. SO, I went into his Dr. and brought with me the marci kids info. She hardly looked at it and insisted she would not increase the dose. However we did get in today for an upper GI. I didn’t actually see the GI doc but I do know everything was okay with the test. So, being that we are on nutramigen and its not working we are now trying pregestimil. If that doesn’t work then we will be forced to go to Neocate. Which for money sake I really really hope he can do okay on the pregestimil. Has anyone else had luck with this one??? I am just hoping for a better night than last. I am exhausted. Mentally and physically. Thank you again for all your comments. I

InactiveI haven’t even ever heard of it (but I am failry new to reflux, so that doesn’t mean anything).
I am so sorry you are having rough nights…we are right there with you. How old is Hunter?
