InactiveI have been losing weight rapidly and I do mean rapidly. I think it is due to Justice nursing, but not as much. I am also eating better, but still, it is a lot of weight. I am almost at my college weight which I thought I would never reach. I weigh less than when I was on the body for life diet and working out like crazy. Has this happened to anyone else before? Does it sound like it is the nursing?

InactiveShelby, I think most of us will think “she’s sooo lucky”. I actually keep GAINING weight but I stopped b/feeding Ariella a little over 2 months ago. But back to you…have you ever had your thyroid checked out? You say that the weight loss is rapid so I’m thinking something hormonal, maybe? I would definitely get yourself checked out just to make sure you’re ok. Good luck

InactiveFirst off, YAY for you! I would guess it would be due to nursing. My baby weight practically fell off while I was nursing…too bad I couldn’t do it for longer.
(Not bc of losing weight but thats just a bonus!) I lost all my preg weight within 2 months of Addy being born. (40 lbs) But have found some it since then.
I don’t think it would hurt to call and talk to your doctor or go in for a physical though because sometimes drastic weight loss can be a sign of something else. It wouldn’t hurt to just check it out.

InactiveHi Shelby,
I always get SO skinny when I’m nursing too. My MIL always asked me if I was eating enough even though I eat TONS when I’m nursing. So I think that’s probably what’s going on with you. It’s weird though, because that hasn’t happened us much since I’ve been pumping with Bryce (you’d think it would have the same affect). Maybe because he’s my third.June 22, 2007 at 3:07 pm #37617Anonymous
InactiveSince you’ve been breastfeeding for a while and the weight loss just started, it wouldn’t hurt to have your doctor check your thyroid level.

InactiveI’d also get it checked out by the doc. It could be from nursing, but sudden onset of rapid weight loss could also indicate other medical problems. Best to get some bloodwork done just to be safe. Other than that… enjoy! It’s almost bathingsuit season!

Inactivelucky you! thats right..thats all i am thinking
. ugh, another reason why i should have breastfed!but a question.. is it all of a sudden falling off.. or has it been falling off all along..but you just notice it now? if its all of a sudden has been and you are not doing anything different than i would def. call.. probably nothing serious.. but i would still call.
and post new pics on your myspace.. love to see the difference!

InactiveTrust me I know how lucky I am.
I guess I should clarify. Yes it has been happening all along, but then stopped for awhile. Now that Justice is not nursing as much it is just falling off. Let’s see, I was 128 before I had Justice and then gained 30 pounds so that put me at 158. I lost about 20 pretty quickly, then I did TED and lost another 5 lbs and that put me at 133 right? Then about two months ago or so it went down to 128 and just started going down from there. I stopped checking my weight and then all of a sudden one day I noticed my clothes fitting differently and I felt different when I put my hands on my hips. I am now down to 119.5. It seems like every few days when I check I am down another pound or half a pound. I don’t know if that would be considered rapid, but to me it is. I mean I did the body for life diet hard core and exercised like crazy. Knowing what I know now I wasn’t eating as well as I could have been. I have changed my eating habits a little, but it doesn’t seem like that little bit would make this much difference. Also, I can clean the houlse now since the boys play together.
Oh, and I have been trying to do abe exercies every other day, but haven’t done then in about 5 days. I would love for it to be what I am eating now, but am afraid it is due to Justice nursing. i am afraid I will just blow up once he’s weaned himself. Just another reason to nurse him until he’s two.
I don’t really think anything is wrong since I feel great. I have been having some headaches and dizziness here and there, but that could be due to the heat. Oh, Lauren, we are going out of town today so I will see if dh can take some pics of me. He is usually to busy, but since we will be on vacation at least someone could take a pic. I’m glad you mentioned it actually because I am ready for a new myspace pic. It would be nice to have a new family pic too.

InactiveThe whole thing with Body for Life and this weight issue is that with BFL, you were probably gaining a lot more muscle and since muscle weighs more than fat, you prob weren’t losing weight, just toning up. When I’m running a lot, I don’t really notice it on the scale, but my clothes fit better all areas. BF’ing always just took the weight off me sooooo fast and I felt like I was eating like a pig and I still lost wt.
This sounds more like the BF thing or maybe something medical. More than a pound or two a week if you’re not trying, seems kinda drastic to me. Not like something is seriously wrong, just healthy wt loss usually isn’t more than that.
Are you doing Body for Life and breastfeeding? That could be it, cause that’s a lot of calories you’re burning if so…… I couldn’t tell from your post.
Either way, if you do get checked out and everythings fine– more power to ya!
I got really sick when Owen was really sick b’fore we figured out what was going on. I lost 18lbs like nothing and before, I would really have to try to lose. But it was just b/c I couldn’t eat anything I was sick to my stomach with worry, and I had no time to eat b/c of everything we were going through. I never gained any of it back and my clothes fit better than before I ever had kids….. BUT I really need to get back to exercising cause I have NO tone!!! I’m skinny but kinda flabby!
Oh well! I finally have a baby who sleeps through the night, or at least for the last week he has! Maybe in a couple of months after I catch up on my sleep I’ll get back into the exercise groove! I went and bought some new workout clothes this week so even if I’m not exercising, I look good! Ha Ha!

Keymasternursing doesn’t make me lose weight as fast as the rest of the planet, LOL
I have hypothyroidism though so I’m sure that contributes to everything as well

I second the suggestion of getting your thyroid level checked out…

InactiveI just wanted to say that breastfeeding Sarah didn’t help me lose weight (at least not dramatically). BUT when I STOPPED nursing/pumping…I almost immediately lost another 10-15 pounds. I guess my body was holding onto some fat stores while BF and once I was done they were GONE!
Definitely get checked out if you’re concerned but that might be what happpened to you as well!

InactiveThanks ladies. Wow things have changed around here in the time I have been gone. We have been on vacation for the last two weeks.
I am no longer doing the bfl life or anything for that matter. I have been really dizzy recently, but that could be all due to the heat. If things persist I will def. go to the dr. I think being on vacation though I have gained back most of what I lost. I had no idea how bad my family ate. They kept giving my kids candy and pop and all kinds of stuff like that. Well, Justice is having a hard night so I am off again. Again thank you for caring.

InactiveShelby, I’d go to the doc if I were you. I was having the same issues, plus some issues with my period, so I finally went to the doc, and I have a “slightly overactive” thyroid now. I lost most of my weight in the first couple of weeks following delivery (I gained about 34 pounds), and now I’m about 8 pounds below where I was when I got pregnant. The other thing is, I’m ALWAYS hungry, which can also work against you–if you eat bad stuff all the time, you can start to put on weight. Apparently it’s fairly common following pregnancy and usually adjusts itself after a few months to 1 year. I am scheduled to have a thyroid scan next week, which will check to see what exactly is causing it. My doc didn’t seem too concerned, though, and even if this is what’s causing your weight loss, it’s usually not anything to be overly concerned about, but you should get it checked out anyway. Hope this helps!
