InactiveI just need to reference a dosing schedule when I find out how much he weighs but I can’t find one for Zantac on marci-kids. Also, I have a hard time converting kilos, lbs and mls
Any help would be greatly appreciated! I read Laura’s groupie info but still am confused about the Zantac

InactiveThe max daily Zantac dose is 10mg/kg (split up however you want over a 24 hour span). The range is 5-10 mg/mg.
So, it depends on your Zantac. The typical formulation (it says on the bottle) is 15mg/mL.
So, to help w/ your range we need your ds’s weight :).

too):https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=8288&PN=1
conversion chart: http://www.sfca.co.uk/match/kilolbs.htm
ok so 11lbs is 5kgs
the maximum zantac does by weight is 10mgs per kilo
so 10 x 5 = 50 mgs total of zantac for the day
your zantac is in liquid form, so look at the bottle & it should read 15mgs/ml
that means that for every 1ml of liquid you give of zantac, your baby is getting 15mgs of the medicine
so, since your baby can have 50mgs of zantac,
divide by 15 to get how much liquid to give
so 50 divided by 15 = 3.3
that’s 3.3 mls total for the day of zantac
divide into two doses and the doses can be ‘uneven’-
so if night time or evening is ‘worse’ then give a higher portion of the meds at that time
example: 1.3 + 2 mls = 3.3
1.5 + 1.8 = 3.3

Inactiveoh, someone just sent me an email from marcikids and he said 25mg 3 times a day which would be 75mg. Isn’t that too much? the max is 50mg right? What is that in mls?

Rebirtha2009-11-19 18:34:59November 19, 2009 at 6:38 pm #64619hellbennt
Keymastertry the 50 (the calculations I just did for you)- you cannot really over-do it as far as I know…if after a few days the 50 isn’t doing it- I’ll figure out the 75, lol. In the meantime, get to a ped Gi or family practitioner or someone who will prescribe a PPI for your baby

InactiveThanks Laura for doing the conversions… I was just logging on to do them & see you already responded :).

Inactivethanks again! shouldn’t i see how the zantac works first? my ped was reluctant to give my baby the zantac. I had to push him. he will surely give me a hard time about a PPI.

Keymasterif your baby constantly needs his zantac dose increased w/ every weight-gain and then eventually it doesn’t seem to be helping (as much) anymore, then it’s time to ‘move on’ to a PPI.
ps: is your screen name have to do w/ WSP 🙂 ?

InactiveYES!!!

How do you quote here?November 19, 2009 at 9:11 pm #64627Anonymous
InactiveI would definitely say ‘ditto’ to what Laura suggested… I would try the Zantac but if it doesn’t seem to be working & helping your ds find FULL reflux relief then I would move onto a PPI.
Good luck!
