I thought I would bump this up because I think I understand what’s going on now with the Zegerid dosing… You’ve probably all got it figured out by now, but I just did!
On the 20 mg. packs you mix the pack with 6.5 mls of water leaving you with 10 mls at 2mg/ml of medicine. You then dose your child from there based on his/her weight/age. If you child is supposed to receive more than 14 mgs. per dose you can use the 40 mg. packs and not have to worry about needing extra buffer. These packs are mixed with, I think 16.5 mls. of water.
However, if you child does not need 14 mgs. at a time, but is having trouble tolerating the 20 mg packs (like mine), you can use the 40 mg. packs instead, mixing them, this time with only 6.5 mls, so you end up with 10 mls at 4 mgs./ml. There is more medicine per ml but less buffer (sodium bicarb. which I guess can cause them to spit it back up or give them bad gas – like my son) Now, if your child needs less than 14 mgs of THIS forumula (3.5 mls), you must add Mylanta for added buffer.
Does this make sense???
