InactiveHi,
I wanted to consult the “experts”
… Haden is now almost 9 months old and still shows signs of reflux. He was virtually symptom free up until a couple of weeks ago. Within the last week we have seen signs that he still “suffers” from it….(His top 4 teeth are all coming in so maybe this is stirring things up a bit?) What I have been observing recently concerns me….It is hard to describe- he seems to be almost like he is holding his breath and trying to blow out thru his nose, he is stiffening his arms straight out in front of him while trying to blow out his nose, and cocking his right ear towards his right shoulder. This has been happening frequently throughout the day but usually in the highchair or after he has had a bottle. He is not congested at all or doesn’t have a cold. (luckily he has only had one cold in 8.5 months!!) He doesn’t cry during these times or seem to be in pain. He continues to sleep great.
I’m wondering if I should call my GI…what do you think?
What I also find unusual is he doesn’t drool at all? Nothing- even with all those teeth coming in- could that be a side effect of the PPI? Or maybe it’s just drainging down the back of his throat?
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

InactiveNot sure what to make of the behaviour, but generally, I’ve found that the head cocking and stiffening tends to be reflux related (for us at least). Interesting about the drool, because Hailey also doesn’t drool, not even when she was cutting her teeth. My first was such a big drooler that she was always wet.

InactiveI am in the same boat as you. I just recently posted about my ds putting his right ear to his shoulder and he kind of stiffens up his left arm and his eyes get big. He used to do this weird blowing out his nose thing but I thougt it was because he was congested from the reflux. He always sounds a little stuffy.
I would call your GI and see what he/she thinks of it. Please pass on any info you get. My ped thought it was a side effect of Reglan and took him off it. He has not had the Reglan since tuesday morning and he is still doing it. If it is still going on tomorrow I am going to call about it.

Keymasterif you increase the PPI dose and it goes away, then it’s Sandifer’s…

InactiveThanks for the thoughts.
I’m going to see how he is this weekend and then if it still continues I’m going to call my GI on Monday. I’ll let you know what she says. Let me know if you hear anything more from your doctor.
What is “weird” today too is Haden woke up from his morning and afternoon nap with the hiccups. He has not gotten the hiccups in months and months- when his reflux was really bad he would get the wet hiccups all the time.
This reflux thing drives me crazy!!
