I requested a medication change to the pediatrician today. I came prepared with the MarciKIDS information and dosing suggestions, etc.
She told me she wanted to do Prilosec compounded at the pharmacy. I told her that I had read about that and I really did not feel this was the best option for us. I requested Zegerin 3 times a day at 7-9mg per time. She was TOTALLY understanding and said that she needed some time to look over the drug because she had never heard of it before. She also looked on the MarciKIDS website. She spent a few hours searching she said and I believe her. She also called a ped GI at Mayo clinic for a consultation because she did not feel comfortable prescribing the drug without someone with more experience that she knew having had experience with it. She said he had never used the drug himself but he had heard of others who had success with it. He did not agree with the dosing, however.
Our pediatrician prescribed 8 mg 2 times per day. I know it is one less time a day, but I am happy that she prescribed this much! She said she feels really uncomfortable prescribing those high doses. I will try it at 2 times per day for 2 weeks. If I don’t see improvement by then, I am going to up it myself to 3 times a day and try to get in to a ped GI that will prescribe more before it runs out.
I am so happy to be starting a PPI! Hopefully we will see relief in a couple weeks.
