InactiveEmma has been doing very well except for the fact that she is still not wanting to eat. I don’t force her, I just leave it to where she can see it. She is not MSPI, she does not have any allergies. I switched her to Alimentum (was on soy and that was terrible) before she was on a proper dose of PPI so I don’t even know if she was ever intolerant to milk or not just that she had really bad reflux and we were trying to do something to help her and the combination has been working great. Her GI wanted to start a milk trial at 15 months but I might try it sooner. Since she started refusing food I was to the point that I was trying to give her anything just to get her to eat even if I don’t know whether she can even handle it. (she has been intolerant to several baby foods) So I was eating ice cream and she was begging and I thought why not, what is it going to hurt and I could not get her to stop eating it. She did find, no reaction at all. Then I tried Yoplait Yogurt and she loved it and did fine again. She has had cheez-its too. So, I am thinking could she handle milk. I know of course that you still need to go very slow but I wanted to get others thoughts on this. Since she is still not eating a balanced diet does she still need to be on formula or if she is drinking plenty of milk is that fine, maybe add a vitamin.???

InactiveNo advice here, just yeah for emma that she is eating- even if it is your food. I think that goes for all kids, they never let us finish our food! My dd will only eat what I am eating too. It’s funny but I guess I just have to give up on the baby food. Congrats on the milk test! I would keep it slow too. I guess you would know there is a problem if the reflux worsens or she gets really gassy and diahrrea.

KeymasterI think that at 12 months, if a toddler is eating a well-balanced diet, then there’s no reason to drink milk per se…now calcium is important, don’t get me wrong! But there are lots of other sources for calcium, like dairy products, broccoli, blackstrap molasses, etc…
jonah did not drink milk until 18 months (didn’t like it) and his ped explained what I just wrote…
as for a well-balanced diet, you say she doesn’t have one…hmm…my sister gave her toddler vitamins (non-refluxer, non-allergy – just a picky eater) – a thick liquid from the refridgerated section of Whole Foods…

InactiveYippee! It sounds like it’s time for a milk trial! Hailey was on Alimentum until 18 months and then we were able to switch her over to milk. She’s drinking about 1/4 chocolate and 3/4 white right now of 2% milk. Once she weaned from the bottle, it took about 3 weeks before she would drink milk and now she drinks about 3-4 cups a day of it. She truly LOVES it. We also started Hailey on a vitamin when she switched to milk. We give her 1/2 of a Flinestone vitamin.
