Missing a Dose

I gave my infant prevacid this morning and she spit most of it out,I see it all over her sleeper. Should I give her another dose?

I don’t think it would hurt to give her another dose, especially if you can see that she spit most of it out. Some medicines I wouldn’t do that with, for risk of overdosing, but Prevacid is pretty safe.

Thanks. Also..do all the symptoms every go away with med.? She is much better as far as spitting up (wet burps), and she is taking the bottle better (but not 100% better). Just curious if they always have some symptoms even with med., until they outgrow it.

if the PPI dose is high enough, they should not experience any pain after they have been on it for a few weeks is my understanding.

once my son was on the marci-kids.com recommended dose, he became pain free and was able to eat with no problems.

oh yeah, and i always re dose if my son spits up within 15 min. of a dose.

I think most of the reflux issues go away. The only thing that didn’t get better for us was the sleeping. I eventually had to do sleep training to get Justice to sleep. It’s not that way for everyone, but for some of us.

Alana was reflux free on the right dose (although she did flare up a couple of times…once when she had gastro…the other time after her 3 months vaccinations). So I think for a lot of babies yes…the right dose fixes them up (there are always exceptions though I suppose). What type of prevacid and dose is your little one on?

She is on 15 mg. I split it and give it twice a day 30 – 45 min. before she eats. 12 hours apart.She has been on it 16 days as of today. I was going to give it over the weekend to see if I saw a drastic improvement. She has improved, but still fights the bottle at some feedings, still gets choked on saliva just sitting around, swallows a lot like there is always something in her mouth and screams out in her sleep. So…I’m thinking maybe the dosage isn’t high enough.

I think you’re right….she probably needs a higher dose.

Can you show her doctor the marci-kids info? That helped to sway Myles’ doctor and it’s worked for other moms here.

About the re-dosing… we were told that if she vomitted within 15-20 minutes of taking an immediate release PPI, we could assume that it didn’t work. If she vomitted within 35-45 minutes of the delayed release PPI, that we could assume it probably didn’t work. This is what the pharmacist told us, but I really have no idea if it’s true or not… I’ve started to become kind of skeptical of pharmacists after this whole experience (no offense intended to ANYONE AT ALL, we just had a bad run!)…
