Excellent explanations – thanks!
April 3, 2013 at 8:59 am #71947AnonymousInactiveThank you so much for your feedback. I am definitely curious about the probiotics now. My father has taken them before – and it makes sense about the “good bacteria” helping the digestive system. We did stop giving our LO the erythromycin on Saturday (her doctor didn’t seem thrilled, but respected our decision to at least see how it goes for a couple of weeks – since we felt it didn’t make a difference, and it scared us to have her on an antibiotic for prolonged period).
Did you take the probiotics since you were nursing, or did you actually open the capsules & put some in your baby’s food?
I did not take any antibiotics while I was pregnant (nor have I taken any since I’ve been nursing). And I had a natural birth… so no drugs there. And neither my husband nor I have family history of reflux, so I’m not sure where it came from 🙁 In terms of weight, our daughter is in the 5th percentile. But she does seem/look healthy & strong, and is 100% on track developmentally, so I wouldn’t have stressed about it unless my doctors called it out – and of course, with her spitting up so much (approx 13x per day), it makes me even more concerned that she’s not getting enough calories, nutrients, etc.

She got to the place where she wouldn’t eat baby food unless it had the pill in it. She actually LIKED the flavor. She still likes the pills and happily reaches for the pill when I get out the bottle. She now just bites them and chews them up. 🙂
I think that they don’t taste very good and I don’t think that most babies probably won’t like them at first. But when they used to them, I doubt they will mind.

April 15, 2013 at 3:22 pm #72049AnonymousInactiveJust wanted to give an update. Don’t want to jinx anything, but we had a better week 🙂 Less spitting up. I have started giving my little one probiotic supplements – her GI specialist thought it was a great idea (so why didn’t SHE recommend them first, before I asked if it would be ok? Oye 🙂 Anyway, using BioGaia.
Still can’t get her to eat as much as other babies – she denied the chunks of sweet potato but for some reason did go for the puréed sweet potato (w/ flax seed oil) but ONLY when I let her mush it in her hands (scoop off the tray) – the spoon is apparently evil right now. Also got her to eat a little French toast w/ butter & maple syrup (she would only eat 1/4 of it though). She didn’t like eggs. She didn’t like pasta w/ meat sauce. She didn’t like polish sausage (tried little chunks). She wouldn’t eat broccoli as finger food. Every now & then I still have luck with baby oatmeal mixed w/ prune juice (I’ll put a little flax seed oil in there too) – she doesn’t like regular textured oatmeal though.
I’m trying to put positive vibes in the universe and hopefully the probiotics continue to help her tummy & the spit up gets less & less. We’ll be doing a weight check tomorrow.
Thanks to those of you who gave suggestions – the support really means a lot. It’s nice to know I’m not alone, and that “this too shall pass” (hopefully sooner rather than later)!!!
April 16, 2013 at 7:50 am #72057hellbenntKeymasterkeep introducing tose foods she doesn’t seem to like- google it- but seriously you have to introduce a food like 20 times or something- don’t give up!
April 19, 2013 at 12:00 pm #72095AnonymousInactiveThat is great that your little one is doing better!! 🙂 I hope she continues!! BioGaia contains only one kind of probiotic. If you notice that she starts doing worse again then I would try giving a probiotics supplement with at least 10 different strains in it. We use Digestive Health sold by Core Health Products. It contains 13 strains plus many different digestive enzymes to aid in properly breaking down our food. http://www.corehealthproducts.com/products/digestive

May 7, 2013 at 2:00 pm #72176AnonymousInactiveThanks! I’ll keep that brand in mind if things go down hill. Not to jinx anything, but my LO has been doing great ever since we started the probiotics! I noticed a change within a week. She used to spit up an average of 13x a day, and it went down to FIVE!!!! The last two days, it was only three!!! I’m not sure if its just a coincidence or what, but I’ll take it!!! She still does not have as hearty an appetite as I’d like, but she is gaining weight (slowly but surely)…. Wish she would eat more solids since she’s only one month away from the one year mark. Then again, it shouldn’t be the end of the world if I continue to nurse her & supplement w/ formula. She has the rest of her life to eat more solids.
How are your little ones doing?
May 8, 2013 at 12:12 am #72177AnonymousInactiveI really believe that the probiotics are playing a part in the improvement!! 🙂 Some people say they help a lot and others say they don’t help at all! I’m so glad your little one is feeling better!
