InactiveHi Everyone,
I had a follow-up GI appt. yesterday and was prepared with the Marci-kids information. I asked that Saywer’s dose be increased to 22.5 mg. (per Marci-kids recommendation). The doctor actually increased the dose to 30 mg. per day b/c he said that the pill should not be split in half because the medicine is not distributed evenly and you can’t be certain how much you are getting if the pill is cut. Has anyone ever heard of this before? Also, Marci-kids indicates that the solutabs are scored and can be cut in half. However, this is not the case and my doctor was very skeptical of the website when he heard this misinformation. Why would the site indicate that the solutabs are scored and can be cut in half? I have to admit, after talking to my doctor, it makes me skeptical to know that the website has inaccurate information. Also, my baby is 2 months old and weighs 11 pounds–does 30 mg. sound like too much for his age/weight.Thanks!LisaJune 26, 2008 at 12:46 pm #53054hellbennt
KeymasterI would email marci-kids wtih your questions/concerns!
perhaps the scoring is something that has recently changed?
anyway, I would try the 30mgs & after 2 weeks you could try to reduce the dose if you want to see if a lower dose would be sufficient.

InactiveYour doc is right about when cutting the pill that med isn’t distributed evenly and that is b/c the beads that get cut don’t work. But cutting the pill is okay. They aren’t scored, but I almost bet that that is a new thing. They change the way pills are made frequently. I think the dose is fine. We always like when docs give more than we ask for. I asked for 22.5 and was told to give 30mg as well which was great for us b/c I didn’t have to ask for another increase…. Good Luck. I hope this is the magic dose for you.

InactiveYAY for a higher dose!!! I would go ahead with the 30 mg, divided however you choose, and hopefully you’ll see a BIG improvement within a week or so (since it’s already in his system at a lower dose). I’m sure you already know to give the solutabs on an empty stomach, followed by a feeding 30 minutes later, but I’m mentioning it just in case….
About Marci-kids, I remember reading the same comment about how the solutabs are scored, and being puzzled. If you do email them, please let us know what reply you get.
Good luck with the higher dose!June 27, 2008 at 11:49 am #53105Anonymous
InactiveI too hope this is the magic dose. The only thing that keeps me going everyday is waking up and saying..”maybe today will be better”. I think I will e-mail marci-kids to find out about the scored tablets. I will keep you posted.
