InactiveOkay moms! How do you cure an overly clingy baby! I know it’s just part of all the things he has been through, but Owen doesn’t even like my mom much. About the only person I can leave him with is my mom, mom in law and DH.
He crys when I leave the room, crys if it looks like I’m going to leave the room, you get the idea! This sucks!I’ve never had this with Griffin, he would reach for a complete stranger! Do I try to coddle him through it, or do I force him on people and make him work it out?He does fine at daycare (3 days a week) but the minute he sees me, no one else will do.UGGGGH!September 15, 2007 at 10:26 pm #42753Anonymous
InactiveIt probably has to do with the daycare. He is probably afraid you will leave him again. I would just be there as much as you can for him. He needs to know that you are going to be there for him. A lot of it too is probably personality. I’m sure he will be over it soon. In the meantime, be patient with him.

InactiveExactly how shane is!! But he will go to my MIL and my MOM.. thank GOD! But i think Shelby is on track too .. i think we need to build security in them.. and let them know they can trust us. I am not sure why Shane gets so upset if i am not near him.. but i just let him know its o.k.. and I am here. Recently I have seen him walking off on his own ( in stores, for a walk, etc).. so he is getting more secure. I also think that they are used to us babying them…and paying so much attention to them (from the reflux and colic).. that if i am not holding him or playing with him..he gets upset.
But it will get better.. and i would suggest not forcing him to be with other people..it’ll just make it worse! I left Shane in sunday school 3 sundays in a row..and tried to just let him cry.. and it was HORRIBLE! soo ..now i just stay there with him! soo i know its hard.. i am in a pickle with that too!! atleast you can drop him off at daycare! 😉September 16, 2007 at 12:27 am #42763Anonymous
InactiveI guess I should be a little less dramatic, it just seems like I have this little attachment on my hip. And with Griffin, he loved other people and I could let him with anyone. When we got ready to leave my parents, he would throw a fit b/c he didn’t want to leave.
I don’t force him on anyone, but I guess what I’m saying is I should probably just continue to try to leave him in different situations and try to get him comfortable and I know eventually he will grow out of it.We’ve just had a tough week, or at least I have with him because he is getting 4 of his top teeth at once and he has been a bear! I know a lot of it is just growing pains! I guess I should just be thankful that he is for the most part over the worst of the MSPI and reflux! We’re successfully eating all solids– milk products included! We don’t go for his one year check until the end of Oct and he will be 1 on Oct 6, so I think I will hold off on any formula switches until then! Don’t want to get too cocky!
Okay, I just made this a happier post now! Wow, I need some sleep! I’m talking to myself in my posts!
Thanks for listening!September 16, 2007 at 8:37 am #42765Anonymous
InactiveLauren, for church I always put the boys in their class, told them goodbye that I would be back, and then I would leave. I stood outside the door and if after 5 minutes they were still crying I would go back in and stay with them. I felt like that way they understood mommy would be back. It took Luke until he was 2 before he would go to his class and now that they have switched him to another class for 3’s he doesn’t want to go again. UGH! Justice, I am still working on it, but have had two times now that I have left and he was fine. Once he even fell asleep. That is amazing! He has a different personality than Luke and I think he will go easier. I am the one having a hard time letting go of him though. The funny thing about Justice is that he will be fine and then he sees me and he freaks out crying. Not sure what that is about.

Keymasterwell, I’m with shelby…I’m one for carrying/holding my los as much as they’ll have me, lol…I’ve been known to even put ari (thank goodness he’s a peanut, LOL) in my mei tai, on the front, and put an apron over him/us and rush about making breakfast in the morning, LOL!!! but he wants to be held and there’s oatmeal to be made, lol
also:
what worked for me is to make up a sign (there probably is a REAL sign, but just pick what you want)
I make an ‘X’ with my 2 pointer fingers and I cross them and tap them- one on top of the other- and say to baby at his level- I look him in the eye-
and I say “Mama will be RIGHT BACK! RIGHT BACK!” I don’t scream like I’m angry or anything- I just really emphasize the words RIGHT BACK and then I go pee or whatever and then when I come back I say “See? Mama is RIGHT BACK!” and I do the sign again…soon he understands and doesn’t get so upset when I leave.
I did this with my son who is now 4 and now with Ari &
it really helps!!!
sounds odd but it works- if they ‘know’ what’s going on (you telling them) then they feel better 🙂
good luck! -
