InactiveI just purchased mylanta cherry supreme. Our next refil of Zegerid will be 40 mg packets, so I will add the mylanta to it. However, until Connors new increased dose kicks in I was thinking of giving him some, especially during his “fits”. The problem is, I forgot to ask the doctor how much and I can’t seem to find dosing info anywhere on line. Does anyone know how much for a 5 month old who is 14 lbs 6 oz?
Also, I remember someone commenting that they mylanta has calcium in it. Someone thought that it was actually calcium carbonate or something. The bottle has a nice big sticker on it that says “with calcium”. Is this a big deal? I would think that calcium would be a good thing.

KeymasterI wouldn’t worry about the mylanta-(I am not a medical professional)
if you are, ask your ped GI, but our ped GI was all for it, as are a lot of the ped GIs of posters here…
you can give 1/2 a tsp at a time whenver- the one sign of too much is loose stools- so if you find you’re over doing it, just back off a little

InactiveHi Kristen- Dr. Phillips said that I can give my 13lb baby up to 20mls a day of the Mylanta. We are presently using it with the 40mg packets of Zegreid, so he is getting 12ml already. It does cause loose stools so we have recently started to add cereal to his formula to see if that helps. When Evan has a “fit” or “flare up” we give him 3ml and that seems to help.
Good Luck

InactiveJust wanted to clarify since I was the one that responded to the thread about the calcium carbonate. It is my understanding that antacids that use calcium carbonate (such as mylanta cherry supreme and tums) act as a good source of calcium. It’s not that calcium is actually added, but it’s in the active ingredient, which is the antacid. I don’t see why it would be a problem, and I wouldn’t worry about it. But I could be wrong of course.

InactiveThanks everyone! I pick up the 40mg packets tomorrow, but I’ve been using hte mylant with my son when he has his “fits” I really can’t tell if it helps or not, it seems to briefly, but he definately LOVES it!

InactiveCan you give the mylanta to any baby? We just increased the dose of my babies prevacid and I’m not sure when that will kick in, but it would be nice to have something to help him. So, does anyone know how long it takes for an increase in dosage for prevacid takes to kick in and in the mean time can I give him mylanta?

Keymasteryup. mylanta anytime. also if you have any zantac/pepsid/axid/tagament you can give that too- just make sure you give those meds at least 2hrs, if not longer, seperate from the prevacid (I’m not a doctor, but that’s what our own ped GI told us and many other ped GIs of babies on this forum-*disclaimer*)
increased dose should take affect w/in a few days…
