InactiveHi everyone – long time no talk! Hope you all are well. Have been SO busy trying to not only take care of Marisa (now 25.5 months) but also work some and we just bought a new house and will be starting renovations soon.
Things had been going really well with DD until recently. The past week or so she’s been beyond cranky, clingy and just not herself at all – to the point where I’ve been tempted to jump out the window or saw my ears off with a butter knife. I know twos can be rough but this really doesn’t seem like that – it’s always been really obvious with DD when she doesn’t feel well (she’s like a different kid then) and this seems more like that. She’s fine one second, way easily set off the next. Tantrums galore, just off – hard to explain really.
I guess two year old molars could be a factor since she doesn’t have them yet but Motrin doesn’t seem to help at all. So now I’m wondering if reflux could be a factor at all even though we thought we were well past that?
What would be a reasonable dose of Mylanta CS for her? She’ll be 26 months on Oct 11 and weighs about 27.5 pounds…
Thanks guys – will try to catch up some on other threads as well.

InactiveWelcome to the terrible twos! I seriously counted the months down the other day until Seth turned 3 but now I am hearing the threes are just as bad!
To answer your question, we usually give Seth 5 ml (1 teaspoon) and were told it was fine at that dose to give every few hours if needed.October 3, 2007 at 4:39 pm #43705Anonymous
InactiveHello there! yes, has been ages. How are you guys doing? Where are you moving to???
Sorry to hear about Marisa not feeling well. Matthew is a little angel BUT the 2 yr molars are really affecting him. I look into his mouth and can see that he has 3 that are half way through the skin… he is super sensitive (as in will cry out of nowhere if he thinks i am scolding him these days). No idea about mylanta but when matthew was younger, he was on 2.5ml, up to 5x a day… so quite a lotOctober 3, 2007 at 5:53 pm #43710Anonymous
InactiveThanks Tiffany and Thais!
OK so it must be partially a reflux issue as while I waited from this posting I gave her 3/4 tsp Mylanta CS and it helped immensely – like her usual self. Yes some normal 2 yo behavior but you could see the difference very quickly.
So I can give her up to 1tsp as needed? Does this mean her reflux is returning or hopefully is it just a flare up and she may just need some meds now and then?

Keymasterat that age (& earlier) I gave tums…something to try- there are certain flavors that are mspi safe as well

InactiveHi Karen! Nice to see you around…
You can also try OTC pepcid complete if the mylanta doesn’t do the trick. Quite a few moms around here have been giving it, and Dr. Phillips gave his “stamp of approval”. They’re giving somewhere around 1/2 a tablet to 3/4 of a tablet, I believe.October 4, 2007 at 2:10 pm #43754Anonymous
InactiveThanks Laura and Lori! The Mylanta seems ok for now but if I do Tums, how much? Regular strength? And with the Pepcid OTC how would I get her to take the tablet?

KeymasterI broke a tums up into quarters (jonah has a LOT of teeth prety early, lol!) and now there’s even quick dissolve tums-
I’d break it up into quarters and just give a quarter here, a quarter there, up to two complete tums I’d say…as for the pepcid complete, dissolve it in water and try giving it that way- 1/2 a tablet to start…October 4, 2007 at 8:13 pm #43777Anonymous
InactiveDid you notice the Tums helped more than the Mylanta? Marisa still seems in some serious discomfort tonight and I only wish she could tell me what was bothering her…
Edited to add – I just realized that the only other difference is that I haven’t given her acidophilus for at least a week – she’s been on it for well over a year now but I ran out and hadn’t bought more since she was eating a fair amount of yogurt. But she’s cut back on the yogurt too. Is it strange for acidophilus (or the lack thereof) to make such a big difference?knb182007-10-04 20:22:40

KeymasterI’m not sure how to compare the tums vs mylanta- tums were easier once he was older…I felt like I had to give a lot of mylanta (5mls is a teaspoon) at a time vs broken up tums…
not sure about the probiotics either…you could try giving them again & see what happens? wish I could be more of a help!October 5, 2007 at 9:15 am #43789Anonymous
InactiveI forgot about the smooth dissolve TUMS- we used those too and they do work great. They are maximum strength so 1/2 a tablet = 1 teaspoon of Mylanta.
We also do 1/2 a tablet of Pepcid Complete at bedtime and now only have to do Mylanta or TUMS on occassion (on top of the Prevacid).I would add back the probiotics and see if it makes a difference.October 5, 2007 at 12:16 pm #43800Anonymous
InactiveI’d also go back on the probiotics. Hailey chews up the pepcid complete with no problems.

InactiveThanks guys – restarted the probiotics today so fingers crossed on that front. Next step will be to try the Pepcid complete if necessary.
