InactiveSome of you mention that you use OTC things for kiddos to help get them through. What is my best option?
Owen has had some terrible nights starting weeks ago with reflux, stomach and now back to reflux. He is on compounded Prevacid and I’m picking up the new stuff tomorrow. Frankly though, I’m at my wits end of not getting sleep for the past 8 months, and if I could get a few nights in here until his prevacid kicks in, I would be greatful!!!

I already had a conversation with the compounding pharmacy and they are preparing it correctly, but now I think it will still take 2 weeks before I see relief again.
Do you prefer mylanta, pepcid?? What should I use and how much? He weighs just over 16 lbs.

Inactivepepcid complete-mylanta didnt do much here. you have to give the pepcid 4 hours apart from a PPI. you can give him half a chewable tablet dissolved in a teaspoon of water. you can email dr Phillips if you want to confirm this.
did you show the pharmacy the information from this site on the thread that talks about how to correctly compound? there is a lot of information in that thread, and more often then not, they TELL you they have done it correctly, when in reality they have not done it like marci-kids.com states.

InactiveYes, I’d prefer the Pepcid Complete as well. Mylanta doesn’t last all night like Pepcid Complete does, and it (Mylanta) has a tendency to cause gas and diarrhea in some babies.
I didn’t use Pepcid Complete for my kids (didn’t know about it) so I can’t say from experience that it worked for them, but I do use it myself and it works better than any other OTC drug I’ve tried.

InactiveI prefer pepcid complete for Landen @ night also. he had horrible breakthrough acid and he sleeps like a champ since we’ve used it. we are still waiting on zegerid (insurance issues). I was told to use it exactly as Natalia described and got the instructions from Dr. Phillips and Landen weighs 15 lbs 9 oz.
Good luck, I really hope Owen is feeling better soon. I hope once he is cruisin’ good, he grows out of this.June 25, 2007 at 9:09 am #37834Anonymous
InactiveWould you please share the instructions for pepcid? That is OTC right? Peyton is about 10 pounds right now

InactiveYes, Pepcid Complete is an OTC medication. I don’t know of any babies as small as Peyton who have taken it, so I’d email Dr. Phillips and ask him. phillipsjo@health.missouri.edu
The other babies on the board who’ve taken it were six months and up (from what I can remember) and he said 1/2 a tablet once per day, but 10 lbs is so small….I’d really want Dr. P’s advice first.
Good luck.

Inactiveis it safe to use pepcid if using Zegrid mixed with mylanta (40mg packages)?? I know they need to be taken 4 hours apart correct??

InactiveThe Pepcid Complete has been a wonder drug for us. We used to give Mylanta at bedtime but he would always wake about two-three hours later and we would have to give him another dose. With the Pepcid Complete, he actually through the night the first time we gave it!!! He still has occassional episodes but nothing like before and it is more random than the once a night wakings we were seeing with the Mylanta. We do space it 4 hours from the Prevacid.

InactiveMy son is 4 months old, when did you start giving Pepcid? Is this over the counter?
June 27, 2007 at 9:38 am #38086Anonymous
InactiveWe just started giving the Pepcid Complete a few months ago so he was well over 2. I would have tried it sooner but just did not know about it. We take 1/2 a tablet. His GI and Dr. Phillips confirmed this dose. I’d definitely try to get an ok before using it for younger infants. It is OTC.

InactiveWell, I heard back from Dr. Phillips and he said I should be giving a dose of 3.3ml Zegrid and 3.3ml Mylanta CS. So I guess that means he feels Charlie should be on a higher dose than 10mg per day?? Because that would be a little over 12mg x3 per day. I asked for some clarification and waiting to here back. I also asked about the Pepcid.
