InactiveMy dd is 4mnths old(well almost) and she had a little bit of blood in her poo at her GI checkup. The GI changed her from Alimentum to Neocate and said no more cereal. Couldn’t it have just been the cereal(which was only in her night time bottle) or could it have been the Mylanta? I only gave that to her three or four times a week(once a day, maybe).
Can a baby be allergic to mylanta….come ingredient in it? Or was it the cereal? Or was it the actual formula? Gracie’s been on Alimentum since I stopped bf’ing at 1month and hadn’t really had any problems. I mean she’s always been fussy. Someone mentioned a corn solid allergy. If that’s the case, Neocate has more corn solids in it than the alimentum. The alimentum ready to feed doesn’t haven’t any corn solids. I thought about trying her on that. The neocate is expensive and Gracie won’t hardly eat it. She was eating less and less on it.
Thanks!

KeymasterI doubt it was the mylanta.
could’ve been the cereal. could be that the proteins built up in her system from the alimentum and then she started showing signs of an intolerance/allergy…that’s probably the train of thought your ped gi has…
from my welcome/intro, towards the bottom, there’s a link called Going to the Top! this will help you get neocate covered by insurance, etc…

InactiveSorry but I really don’t think it was any of the others. But I will say it could have been. With Neocate you will notice that your baby will eat less and then all of a sudden will start to eat more. The esophagus is irritated and needs to heal and that is what slows the feedings down. When it heals they begin to pick back up on feeding. I will also tell you that my son liked the taste of Neocate with rice cereal in it better than just plain. Can you get a brand that doesn’t have any soy or milk in it. If you can that will probably help but I would do a Neocate only for a couple of weeks. There are also some crediable people you can buy Neocate from on ebay. I used to buy my sons from one person and he always gave me a good deal and the formula was always stored right so I never had to worry about it. You can email me if you would like his name. Also as Laura said you should start now trying to get insurance to pay for it. I wouldn’t wait too long. Let me know if you would like me to email you the name and address where I got my sons formula. We are very blessed because Colt no longer needs it but if it wasn’t for ebay I wouldn’t have been able to afford it.
