InactiveMy little guy has been on Prevacid since the end of January. The dosage was upped to 7.5mg 2x daily 2 weeks ago. It has helped his sleeping (we actually had 4 decent nights this week-which was AMAZING) but during that time he has become EXTREMELY grumpy and cranky during the day. He cries to be held ALL DAY and even when held is still not completely content.
Without the Prevacid he was up every hour all night long. With the first dosing (7.5mg solutab 1x daily) he was still up most of the night, but there was *some* improvement. Now that the dosage is higher we have traded good days for good nights. My question is: why should that be a choice I should have to make? My pediatrician was pissed at me for taking him to my natural-path doctor, but I just can’t see that these drugs are making things truely better. I knew in the beginning that they would be a bandaid if they worked, but I was willing to accept that if it gave my son some relief (and all of us some sleep).I am strongly considering taking him back to the natrual-path doc and having him truely allergy tested. We are considering moving to rice milk instead of Alimentum (which has helped the MPSI, but not worked wonders). Don’t get me wrong, the reflux is better on the Alimentum and Prevacid, but he is SOO unbearably cranky all day. So, really, what’s the point? My question is this: Has anyone tried other methods of dealing with MPSI and/or GERD? I am not knocking the medications for those who have had great luck with them. I would be 100% on the band-wagon if they didn’t seem to have such crappy side effects for James.Would love stories and suggestions!~NatalieMarch 14, 2010 at 3:42 pm #66046hellbennt

I don’t know if the chiropractor really helped, but it didn’t hurt

InactiveWe tried medication (prevacid, prilosec, zantac, domperidone). We tried a naturopath/homeopath, and osteopathy. We also tried a dietician. We saw an OT, PT, SLP, pediatric psychologist and infant psychiatrist. The therapies helped for the delays and feeding. The meds were the only real answer for the pain, and really only the PPI meds did anything. She had to outgrow the rest. The osteopathy and psychiatry were a big waste of time!

InactiveWe tried the osteopathy and it did nothing i’m tempted to try a chiropracter!?? We did try Colic Calm for reflux as a medication but that did nothing but make spitups black… now she is on Zantac and I dont think it has helped. I’m like you though..I wanted to try the natural way, but at this point anything that takes her pain away and wont be harmful for her in the long run. I keep telling myself someday this will be a distant memory…but it hard!!!

Keymasterif there are histories of allergies in your family, be careful of herbal rememdies…I think chamomile is related to rag weed? I would fully research everything first…
for night time try 1/2 of a pepcid complete- they’re OTC- get the dissolvable kind and crush it up w/ some water…March 21, 2010 at 11:27 pm #66084Anonymous
InactiveCan I do that with her Prevacid Solutabs? Do I have to space them?
What do they do to help? -
