Need a suggestion

Ijust found out that my brother and his wife are expecting. She has no medical insurance and in fact, she has no papers. They’ve been married for four years and for some reason the INS keeps denying to grant her a green card. My question is, even though she has no papers, can she still get some kind of an insurance for prenatal care, labor/delivery? Thank you all for you suggestions/advice.

does she have an immigration attorney? I would ask her/him

Has she checked around her area. There are special clinics for women who are in need of care. Some local health departments will do prenatal care.

Kathleen, She’s afraid that those places do not treat women nicely and they will not take good care of their unborn baby.

Planned Parenthood will ususally do low-cost/no-cost prenatal care as well as their local health department.

Also have them check in the phone book…many times there are crisis pregnancy places that will do low/no cost prenatal care as well.

2 main social services that are very very reputable & found in most major cities are:

catholic charities http://www.catholiccharitiesusa.org/

jewish federation http://www.ujc.org/section.html?id=5

they both have resources to help everyone, regardless of their faith, they are simply ‘umbrella’ organizations meaning that many many different kind of services fall under their main organization

I would find the local one of each (why not) and contact them
