edith elizabeth—i’ve typed you replies more than once and then deleted them. not sure what i have to say will necessarily be helpful. my sylvia was failure to thrive for most of her first 2 years. i had plenty of milk, she couldn’t keep enough down. i did alot of breastfeeding because she would spit up and i would nurse again. sylvia ended up with a fundoplication and a hiatal hernia was discovered. prevacid and carafate didn’t stop her esophagus from getting ulcerated. the hernia made her rerflux uncontrollable. i nursed her for 15 months. she did have bottles—–but only because there were times i needed to be away. failure to thrive is one of the reasons for doing a fundo, but i think you are a little early in the game to consider that. if it were me, i would not thicken bottles, i’m not a big believer in that. i would nurse my baby as much as possible. if supplementing was still felt needed, i would do it after breastfeeding.

Ok Laura I see why I’ve confused you…you said the vomiting may never stop

and I made the leap that direct brestfeeding will nevr be possible…of course

that doesn’t necessarily follow, but in this case in may…thickening is the

only way the baby keeps enough milk down to grow…and thickening means

the baby is not breastfeeding and there hasn’t been enough time to pump

enough to not use formula and the milk supply is definitely taking a nose

dive…

Thanks Christine it does help to know that eventually some people get

answers to the why, and yes we are not needing surgery…
