InactiveHello Ladies…Need Your help Again….Thanks In Advance

Katie’s Ped. GI asked us to start solids because she is almost 20 pounds at 4 months. (Just like her brothers were) Well I started with the small yellow veggies, squash. 3 days total on Veggies….. Well her reflux flared the worse ever. Projectile vomiting, arching, screaming, crying, avoiding feeds during peek reflux times. Well I have stopped all solids 3 days ago and finally today she is mostly back to normal. My DH said that maybe because her Neocate is so broken down that maybe her tummy can’t handle the solids. Her Dr. said he didn’t want to do the Milk Challenge till 6 months so the solids are the only thing to change???
I don’t know what to do or think. I called the Dr. a nervous wreck and asked for Zedergid (sp?) and am waiting for insurance to accept the letter of medical nessecity.Anyway now that the solids has stopped all the other reflux issues have too….What do I do know??!!?? WWYD????Do I get the meds when they come in? What about solids??? She eats about 36 oz. of formula a day. She isn’t suffering weight wise……But ALL the screams of pain and crying was enough to scare me away from any other challenge for awhile?????August 30, 2007 at 4:52 pm #41931Anonymous
InactiveWe are taking 42oz of formula/day most days and solids, so I would say she is fine on the amount of formula. I would hold off on solids for awhile esp since she is on neocate. I wouldn’t try solids again until you tried a different formula like nutramigen or alimentum…. The neocate is so broken down… why would your doc want to do solids before trying to change her to a less broken down formula??? I am just thinking out loud. I would hold off on any solids or formula changes until 5-6 months… but that is just me. We are doing solids with nutramigen… I did 5 days per food and I don’t plan on trying to change to Gentelease until 9 months even though the doc wants me to try at 7 months… He gives me suggestions and then I decide what I want to do as he doesn’t have to live with my baby if something goes wrong… Again thinking outloud. I hope that helped some.

KeymasterI would wait on solids…4 months seems awfully young to me…these babies have enough troubles w/ their digestive systems…

InactiveI wouldn’t worry to much about the formula or the weight at this stage. It sounds so much like Alana at that stage. We were close to 50 ounces at one stage! She’s still bigger but leveling out. evergreenie2007-08-31 01:45:44

Inactivei wount def not give solids at 4 months…..seems way too young especially with a sensitive digestive system. new standards of american academy of pediatirics say babies do not need anything except bm/formula unitl 6-8 months of age…and technically babies do not “need” solids until about 12 months of age.

InactiveDanni could not eat baby food but if I made it homemade she could keep it down. The only thing the dr could determine was that the preservatives might be causing her problems.
Maybe you could try steaming some carrots until they are very soft and then mushing them up for her. If that works, then you know she just needs homemade food. There is a lot in baby food that can make babies’ tummie’s sick. Hope this helps!CherieSeptember 3, 2007 at 6:27 pm #42125hellbennt
Keymaster(
the one food I ever heard you shouldn’t make is carrots- something about nitrates- don’t quote me, though

InactiveI’d also hold off on the solids if you’re worried. Our GI showed us new standards that show that it’s better to wait until 6 months to start solids.
