Need serious advice….

Kora had her upper GI done yesterday, and it came back neg. for reflux. Now I know that doesn’t mean she does not have it, but my doctor is determined that she infact does not have reflux. I am so ticked! She has all the classic signs of being a refluxer, regergitating and constantly swallowing, non stop crying after eating, poop issues and so forth. Now I know it could be reflux due to a protein allergy, but it’s still reflux.

Kora has a follow up appointment today to check her weight and for me and her doctor to go over her results and try to “debunk” her problems….I’m just mad. Even if it is caused by a protein allergy at least put her on meds until we can find out if she is a refluxer or a refluxer due to allergies.

How do I approach my doc about wanting a referral to see a ped GI? If my doc does not feel its reflux he wont give me a referral, so I need to seriously convince him some how that she needs a second opinion from someone who specializes in gastroenterology.

I don’t want to be a B**** but being nice hasn’t gotten me very far, and I am determined to get my daughter some relief one way or another, even if that meas finding a new family doc.

My poor baby cried from 8pm until 330am…she ate at 730pm then 30min later had her screaming fits, and wouldnt eat in between.

ok TELLl your dr that the upper GI showed that there are no structural abnormalities, thank god! AND it showed that she did not reflux at the TIME OF THE TEST. So, you are now requesting a referral to a ped GI. THANK YOU.

Well thankfully it didnt have to go that far, however it was bad enough that it took for her to have one of her choking episodes for him to FINALLY prescribe her Zantac. Now it’s just seeing if it is the right dose per Marci Kids

Okay, so Kora is 8lbs 1oz which converted into kilos is 3.66

3.66×10=36.6

36.6 divided by 15=2.44

I could have sworn my doc said the max amount she could have was 18mg twice a day. I have to actually pick the meds up first lol.

Now with the new dosage chart it says 3x a day or is that for PPIs and not H2 blockers? I’m a bit confused lol. I’m math stupid so i’m not sure if I calculated right.

I know you’re busy so I’ll summarize:

peds often go by DIFFERENT dosing guidelines than ped GIs.

So, it does not come as any great surprise if your doctor told you your baby should have less zantac than what you baby can have…

but, you also say your dr said 18 twice a day, so that’s 18 + 18 = 36 and that’s what you came up with, 36 (well 36.6).

so, you and your doctor are on the same page

this is for ZANTAC now, right? lol.

You should give the zantac two times a day.

So if it’s 15mg per 1ml I would give her 2.5ml split twice daily?

yes

you can split 2.5 into two doses and you can do it any which way:

1.25 + 1.25

or 1 & 1.5 at night

You can also get mylanta cherry supreme- this is the kind to get- it’s the adult kind- no aluminum listed as an ingredient-if you can’t find the mylanta brand, look for store brand equivalent- look for one with no aluminum you can give this with the zantac and you can give up to 2.5mls a day-if you see loose stools, back off

I have looked literally every where and due to the Mylanta recall I can’t find anything, even the generics who follow pretty much the same recipe have been pulled off the shelves. The only thing they have is malox(sp) in the extra strength and tums/rolaids.

Even CVS has pulled their Aluminum free generic mylanta off the shelves here. But we’re still looking!
