Inactiveokay so yesterday I had some ice cream– Yup I had some ICE CREAM!!!! WOO HOO— OMG it was better then sex!!!
Well maybe not that good—- LOLSo Ryder was fine with it. Does this mean I can eat dairy again? or does it mean I can only have a little bit of dairy? I am thinking that I will start to have some cheese tomorrow and see what happens.
How have you reintroduced dairy back into YOUR diet while breastfeeding? I am still worried that soy will set him off but I would KILL for some Thai food!

InactiveLaura usually has very informative responses to these kinds of questions. From what I can remember I think it only takes a few hours for dairy to pass from your milk into the baby, but it can take two weeks or more for enough proteins to build up in his body to create a reaction, so you may want to take it very slowly if you want to start adding dairy to your diet.
I think I’ve read here that it’s best to start with hidden dairy and hidden soy, probably not both at the same time though.

InactiveOK…my first piece of cake and ice cream after Brianna outgrew her milk intolerance…welll to me that was better than sex!!! LOL!!!
You know most people here say to add milk back into the mother’s diet first, but I did the exact opposite. I know I have posted this before, so I will be brief with why. three reasons really. 1. I figured I would notice a more obvious reaction if I gave the milk directly to Brianna 2. I was also told that if you eat dairy it can take 2 weeks to get out of your system. So I figured 2 weeks in mine and another week at least to get out of Brianna was three weeks..vs. a week or so only for it to get out of Brianna. and 3. I was just scared of how good pizza would taste…I was afraid that once I took the dairy plunge, there would be no going back
. But seriously, for me, this worked. I started with yogurt at the advice of my Ped. When that was fine, I actually did have a pice of pizza (it was my birthday). I kept introducing other dairy to Brianna, but myself I would only have it once a week, and in small doses. Long reason for why but PM me if you are interested. Good luck and here is praying for more ice cream cones in your future.April 16, 2007 at 6:06 pm #30706hellbennt
Keymasteryou all should have seen ME when I ate that first slice of pizza after a year!!! (I didn’t eat tomato products for a year)
!!then, you should have seen dh when I told him that I ‘accidentally’ ate some pizza

…anyway: it is said that you shoud start with hidden dairy like cheese crackers, etc and then wait 2 weeks. if all goes well, then try ‘obvious’ dairy like ice cream or cream sauce (can you tell I’m hungry?LOL!) and give that 2 weeks…
the ‘2 week’ thing is that the proteins can build up in their systems and it can take 2 weeks for the effect to show- I would think the ‘later’ kind of effects would be more behavioral type things- bcse if you eat something it is passed through to your baby about 3-5hrs after you’ve eaten it so I would think that if you eat hidden dairy at noon & then you nurse at 4pm and then later on there’s a strange diaper or a screaming attack, then you’d be quick to suspect the cheese crackers….

InactiveWhitney, Perhaps you could try a patch test? Just rub a little milk or yogurt on Ryder’s skin, look for any reactions. Inflamation is easier to see on the outside than the inside
. Unfortunately, this isn’t the most reliable test, but if you do see a rash–I would hold off on the dairy a bit longer. FYI I’ve read that *most* children outgrow their intolerances to soy before milk.
