InactiveI am a teacher and just resigned, but i have to finish the school year due to end of year state mandated testing.
Barret was sick this week and so I was out with him all week. He had an upper respiratory infection and was told that this happens in refluxers. Plus, he has a blood disease which makes him get more ill. Well, he was in the hospital on Mon.
and I had to come back to work today. Barret was still stuffy today and I didn’t want to leave him with the sitter. She is a great sitter and I trust her 100%, but I want to be with my sick baby. I’m really sad and miss him a lot.

InactiveYou know, I went back to work at the end of my maternity leave with Owen and this was before we learned he was MSPI, he was on reflux meds, but he was one sick little baby. The week before I went back, I stopped nursing him although I wanted to continue, I had been advised to just start him on Alimentum, so I did which to this day I regret.
I was back a work maybe two weeks and he went into the hospital. MY husband was out of town the week we were in the hospital and couldn’t come home so my oldest son was being passed around btwn relatives.
We came home with a feeding tube that stayed for 10 weeks, he wouldn’t eat his formula, he really wouldn’t eat anything. When I had to be home with Owen, I felt guilty not being at work, and when I took him to daycare, I felt guilty not being with my child. It tore me apart.
I cried every day when I left him and I cried at work constantly! Everyone told me to go home, I’m sure my patients thougth I was a mental case (I work in a hospital), my hair started falling out, I lost 18 lbs in about 4 weeks and I’m a small person to begin with. I WAS A MESS!
Anyway, a long story made even longer, you shouldn’t feel guilty leaving him, but it’s just so hard. Try not to get emotionally down, I did because I felt so alone, my DH is very quiet and doesn’t like to talk about the sad or bad things that happen so that was really hard on me b/c I think talking about it made me feel so much better.
We’re all here to listen and give computer hugs!

If you’re a first time mom, even more hugs, b/c I can’t imagine how hard it would be if you don’t have anyone to compare to. My first was a great baby with no problems. Owen seems to catch anything under the sun and then some!
I know he will eventually outgrow this!I hope you get to be with baby soon! Summer is coming to! That always makes me happy!

I know baby comes first, but take care of yourself too!!!!

My husband works very long hour during the week so I’m pretty much a single parent Mon. – Fri. I’m glad I have you guys!

InactiveOh my goodness we should really talk, wished you lived in Nebraska…. We could trade kids for errands

My boss has no kids and if one of mine is sick I always stay home. My DH works extremely long hrs during the week and sometimes Sat as he is an electician and does outside work so if it’s light outside, he’s usually working. I also make way less money and only work part time, so it makes sense that I would stay home with them!
If I call in sick for one of my kids, she asks, well have you called anyone else (meaning to watch them) are you kidding, they are MY kids!!!!!

She just doesn’t understand!

InactiveOh Brooke, how well I remember those feelings. My first child also had reflux, and I was teaching then as well. I hated that double guilt feeling of not doing a good job at either of my responsibilities – work or home. I also felt conflicted, and, most of the people with whom I worked, didn’t have children and couldn’t really sympathize.
Hang in there. I remember how much I loved that first summer off with her… so much actually that I only taught one more year and have been home since
. Can’t say the work load is any easier
, but I least I don’t have a stack of research papers to grade anymore! -
