InactiveMy baby Davey is about 5 weeks old. He was early and we were in the hospital for almost 2 weeks. My milk never came in fully and was forced to go to formula at 2 weeks. Since then we have been in and out the hospital, doctors appointments every other day… They gave me prevacid for acid reflux and every time we gave it to him he would projectile vomit after his subsequent feeding and vomiting was never a symptom before, sure, some spit up during a feeding or whatever, that is normal for a baby but this much?
So my pediatrician gave me zantac and I gave it to him once and he did the same thing! Threw up all over, a ton of it. I am so scared to give it to him but during and after every feeding he is in such pain. I am desperate. I have no idea what to do. Being a first time mom and then this… It’s all so over-whelming. I don’t care about no sleep or not having time to eat. I just want him to feel better. Does anyone have advice or experience with these medications? Do you give him the medicine before, during or after the feeding, will timing make a difference of him spitting it up? PLEASE HELP!!!

InactiveWhat type of prevacid is it? That will make a difference on how you time it. If it’s the solutab, then you’re supposed to give it about 30-60 minutes before a meal and on an empty stomach to make the med work.
What happens if you don’t give any meds… will he vomit anyway? I’m wondering if the vomitting is a new symptom. You should see what happens. If he’s projectile vomitting after each feed, then you should tell the docs so they can make sure that it’s not pyloric stenosis (which it probably isnt’).My dd was more of a silent refluxer, but would vomit every time I gave her the meds. It was because she didn’t like them, had a sensitive gag, and when I’d try to give them to her she’d cry, or the syringe would make her vomit. How much med is your son on? If you give the zantac and the prevacid, you can’t give them near each other, but I can’t remember how many hours apart it is.I know how hard it is having to deal with this. But hang in there. It’s not hopeless.December 13, 2009 at 10:10 am #65096hellbennt
