InactiveHi!
After switching my 9 month old from prevacid/CCmax due to insomnia after increasing his dosage to help him sleep I have started Prilosec/CCmax, 5 mLs at 7:30, 1:30, and 6mLs @7:30.He wakes up at 11 to nurse and usually goes right back down. He then wakes around 2 and is definitely restless. I can tell he’s tired but just can’t seem to get comfortable in my arms. He jolts awake which I assume is after he refluxes but then usually falls back asleep although I can’t lay him down. This goes on for an hour or two.My question is should I continue to treat this with pepcid complete every night or increase his evening dosage of Prilosec? Should I have to use the pepcid every night or should his PPI be taking him through the night? I guess I’m wondering what’s normal…Thanks for any advice!August 17, 2011 at 6:20 pm #68889hellbennt
KeymasterI would try the pepcid complete for a while? If he’s good the whole day w/ what you’re doing w/ the prevacid, then that’s what I’d do (did do…I gave zantac in the middle of the night, but same thing)

InactiveThank you Laura! I was driving myself crazy thinking the PPI should take care of everything without additional medicine but that is not the case with my little guy. I gave him the pepcid complete around midnight last night and his 3a.m. nursing was reflux flare free.
I am just going to be proactive and give it every night. I appreciate your knowledge and experience!August 18, 2011 at 12:45 pm #68894hellbennt
Keymasteryou’re more than welcome!
after a few weeks, you can experiment and not give the pepcid and see how it goes- keep on top of the PPI dose (increase w/ weight gain, etc) & you most likely will find that there are times (time periods) you won’t need the pepcid, too…August 19, 2011 at 6:44 pm #68898Anonymous
InactiveI will definitely keep on top of the dosing. I wish the Marci-Kids site was up as I want to print off the information to take into my ped…yet again.
Did you or anyone else add additional flavoring to the ccmax/prilosec? It is so bitter and leaves a nasty after taste, I can’t imagine giving it without the ccmax flavoring. My son hates taking it now where as he loved taking it when he was on Prevacid b/c it doesn’t have that bitterness.
Any ideas?August 19, 2011 at 9:05 pm #68901hellbennt

I forget why are you w/ prilosec if prevacid was better?August 20, 2011 at 2:02 pm #68906Anonymous
InactiveWell, he started to have more flares at night and was waking every 2 hours wanting to nurse (for comfort) so we increased the prevacid/ccmax. With the dosing increase he started waking up around 2 a.m. and staying awake till around 6 a.m. It took about a week but I finally linked the increase in prevacid to his insomnia so we switched to Prilosec and have been great ever since.
He preferred the prevacid because it doesn’t have any taste except the caracream which tastes good where as the prilosec has an aftertaste but it’s working great in combo with the pepcid complete. He is only getting up 2x to nurse and right back down, which is fantastic for him!I’ll contact Dr. Phillips and see if he can send me any information even though the site is down. -
