My 4 month old has horrible reflux…on 5ml of prilosec a day, EleCare, thickened feeds. Nothing really “helps”, we just have “ok” days and then “really bad” days.
He takes btwn. 2oz and 5oz (if we try like crazy) between a feed. About 1x a week, he projectile vomits. He takes an average of 18oz a day. Again, he’s 4 months old.
I know his daily intake is a bit low at this point (just reaches minimal hydration needs), and he wakes up pretty much every 2 hours during the night. It’s hell because we get NO sleep and then have to deal with everything during the day. We feed him every time he wakes up during the night (he takes about 2oz each bottle) because his intake is so low and 6oz during the night time is 6oz we can add to his total intake in 24 hours and as you all know….it matters.
My question is, do you think we should still do the night feeds or work on having him put himself back to sleep when we wake up? I’d hate to ignore his hunger cues and just make him get used to going back to sleep if he truly is hungry (which i think he is sometimes) but I know from my 1st son that these night feeds lead to sleep associations which lead to horrible sleeping for everyone involved for a long time…..
SHould i keep up the night feeds to ensure he gets more nutrition and deal with the sleep once things get better (hopefully after 1st year)? That’s what we chose to do with my first son who has similar problems…
