Lori..when you went on the caracream, did you still have the two week “waiting period?” Did you also stay on the Zantac? Do they Caracream and Zantac need to be spaced apart given that the Caracream is immediate release?

I’m almost positve you don’t have a waiting period- caracream is just another ‘form’- it’s still prevacid-if the dose is different (higher) then maybe it will take a few days for the new dose to take affect

zantac needs to be spaced apart from PPIs (prevacid, prilosec, nexium, protonix) regardless of their ‘form’ (compound, capsule, solutab, packet)- we were told to space a PPi & zantac 2 hours apart and we were fine with that, but the majority of parents who post here report that their drs say to wait 4 or 5 hours…

we stayed on zantac until it was apparent that it wasn’t necessary anymore…then we used it ‘as needed’

Can I ask if you had a set schedule for when you gave the prevacid/caracream (if you did) and the zantac?

we gave the prevacid 1st thing in the am & then again before sleep- maybe it was 8pm? (maybe it was 6pm?) and the zantac at about 11:00am or noon and again maybe at 3pm (if given at 11:00am, I’d say)

oh! yes and we gave a higher dose in the evening bcse reflux was worse at night, or it was harder to handle (for us) at night…so we split the dose ‘unevenly’ w/ the higher portion given in the evening
