oh boy not again!

ryder has been sick with a cough and he has been a mess but since he has been on the antibotics he has been better during the day and worse again at night. He is getting up 3x a night again.

the pedi GI says to wait it out it’s just the cold I really hope so- anyone else have this problem when your LO gets sick??? How much longer is this agnoy going last??

I’m sure it will pass when the cold and cough are gone. I’ve been through it many times with my three. Hang in there. The GI’s probably right, especially if the night wakings started with the cough.

right now I am up with him- He went to bed at *:30 and woke up at 12 and I nursed him and tried to put him down and he cried. This is what he has been doing. He wants to nurse and nurse. He is nursing at night for 20 mins 3x a night so I am up for a hour…. I am so done. I actually yelled at him. Now I am bouncing him in a bouncy chair…….

I am just so frustated- we always seem to go so up and down and it kills me. Just when I think things are getting better we get hit with a week or so of a really bad night. I hate it

Have you given him anything for the cold, other than the antibiotics? Maybe he has a stuffed head (you know how that can be), maybe some ibuprofen. I have just given Alana some dimatapp- it is for sinus congestion and has helped a lot. Did he have a red/sore throat- maybe he is trying to soothe it by the eating- not sure what you can give for that but maybe the pharmacist?

I don’t think you are the first mum to yell…just take a break (I always figure if they are going to cry regardless, a couple of minutes to just collect myself probably won’t do to much harm). Don’t beat yourself up about it, we know and you know you love the little one- thats why you are bouncing at all hours of the night! Hang in there (hey you had twins, I know you can handle anything)

there was a mom on here w/ 6 kids (racy, ‘eli’smom’) and her advice is to get a prescription cough medicine for night time- just call (fax) the ped and say how terrible night time is w/ the coughing and how your poor baby isn’t getting any sleep, so please call in a prescription for a cough medicine…they’ll do it (I did this after reading her advice & it was so great!)

one more thought: when the antibiotics are over, don’t forget the probiotics

I usually ask for Rx cough medicine when my kids are sick, too. They always say “sure” but don’t ever offer it. The one with codeine works well, but only lasts a few hours. I’ve actually had better luck with OTC Delsym. It lasts 12 hours and for some reason it seems to work better for my kids than the Rx stuff. So now I just buy that and make sure I always have it in the house.

Did you take him to the doc, or just talk to him on the phone? Maybe it would be a good idea to take him in to see if he’s got a sore throat, ear infection, or something else that could be making him very uncomfortable.

Brianna had the cold/caugh thing and was waking all the time at night with coughing spells. I gave her some Delsym too and Benedryl when it was really bad. It will get better! The only other thing is that I echo what Laura said about the probiotics.

I would call the Dr but of course he is gone for the day. I think I amy try and get some bendryl. Is that okay for a almost 9 month old???

Also what do you recomend for probiotics?
