InactiveOMG!!! Henry is off his periactin and it’s getting worse be the minute.
His last dose was last Monday. We are having him tested for allergies on Tuesday and I don’t know if I can make it.
I was ready to leave the house and check into a hotel last night. ALONE!!
Between him and Lucy, I got virtually no sleep. I finally caved and woke my husband up at 2. we trade nights and this was my night. I feel so incompitant for not being able to handle this and letting him get some sleep.
So the longest stretch Henry gave us last night was about 20 mn! He just screams and cries and whines in his sleep. It’s getting so bad now that it was waking him up last night. I’d go in and he’d be just standing in his crib sobbing pitifully.
I’m sure this is harder on my than him, but it’s really hard to see him like that when there’s nothing I can do for him.I need help getting through this!!!
Anyone want to spend the night at my house tonight?

InactiveOh, my…I’m sorry to hear he’s so unhappy.
I’ve sure had my share of sleepless nights. Hang in there, and good luck with the allergist. I hope they can help him.October 22, 2006 at 2:57 pm #16375Anonymous
InactiveOMG Amy! That sounds brutal! Sounds like a night at my house, actually…
Hang in there. Just wondering, is his periactin a liquid? I’ve been trying to convince a doc to prescribe it here, but seems that we only have a pill.

InactiveAmy,
Is it possible its an age thing? Colt is the same age as Henry and he has been horrible to be around. He does alot of the same things at night. Last night he kept getting up and standing in his crib crying. He whines all day long. I am taking him to the doctor to rule out an ear infection. But I have the feeling that its just an age thing. I am sorry you are going thru this.

InactiveLori… yes, it’s a pill. Henry’s been on it since about 9mths. We split the pill in quarters to start with. Then fed it to him on top of his applesauce or something. Now we just hand it to him and he eats it.
Kathleen… no, I’m not thinking it’s the age for us. This didn’t get bad until we stopped his periactin. And it’s getting progressively worse each night he’s without it.
If anything, it reiterates how much the medicine does for him! I’m gonna go to bed soon and hopefully take tonights shift. Wish me luck

InactiveGood luck Amy!
What does the pill taste like? Is it just a regular pill that tastes “mediciney”? We have a generic tablet here, I’ve been wondering if I could convince a doc to prescribe it, and then get it compounded.

InactiveNever tasted the pill
, but Henry actually chews it so it must not be horrible. I’ll tell you what though, he never even noticed it when we put it on a spoonful of food. The pills are rather tiny. How we ended up on it was when we were at the peds office and I had no sleep the night before. I was exhausted and just plain tapped out! I was bawling(litterally) about how bad the nights were with Henry and how we can’t live like this. I told him I felt it was allergy related. The doc said periactin would be good if it’s allergy and felt we had nothing to lose by adding it in. Henry was also not eating/drinking well and was in the 10% and dropping. originally in the 50%. The periactin increases appetite sometimes. The periactin also has a sleepy effect on some kids. The ped liked the side effects and thought it would help us. When we started the medicine, we had our first night of sleep-ever since he was born-9mths. It was about 6 hours, but still it was a blessing to us.
Thought that may help you. It’s difficult to communicate to the docs about things you read here-on the “internet”. They think you’re nuts most times. Crying to them always helps

InactiveAmy, I am so sorry you are going through this. They will let you give him the Periactin as soon as the tests are over right? My doc said the exact same thing. I went to her saying I was not getting any sleep and Emma was just not acting right and there was nothing else going on, she wasn’t even teething and they recommend the Periactin. It has been great for us as well and I can’t wait for you to be able to give it to him again. Hugs to you
I hope it is over very soon!!!!btrue2006-10-23 10:35:43October 23, 2006 at 1:23 pm #16434Anonymous

InactiveLori,
Alexis is on cyprohetad liquid which I believe is the same as periactin I’m not sure if you MD would be willing to precribe that instead and since it is liquid it is much easier to adminster.
Amy,
I hope things get better for you. After Taylor’s allergy test the did start her on Zyrtec everyday to help with her persistence nasal congestion, it is hard to determine if it is due to reflux or her allergies, but every morning she is very congested but after I give her the Zyrtec she seems to be much clearer. Anyways, good luck with everything. Hope you get some much needed sleep soon!

InactiveWell, we went to the allergist today. Good news and bad news. Good news… everything looks great with Herny and all his tests. Bad news… the scratch tests showed nothing. We still have his blood allergy tests out. We’ll get those results in about a week.
goodness how I pray we get some answers from those blood tests!!
maybe tonight we’ll get some sleep. he’s back on the periactin. if he has no allergies, then why does he need the periactin so badly???
I also asked about testing for corn syrup. she said there’s no definite protein in corn syrup to accurately test for. so we didn’t test for that.

InactiveGood luck, Amy.
It’s so frustrating when you know there are allergies or intolerances going on and everything comes back clear. Hope you get some answers.

InactiveAmy, I know how frustrating it is just searching for answers. It would be wonderful just to know what to do, how to help them! I have multiple allergies, it took forever for me to figure out what I am sensitive to. Nothing shows up on the allergy tests and sometimes it takes days for me to react with headaches and stomach aches, I guess because it is really an intolerence. Have you tried alternative med? I went to a chiropracter/acupunture chinese woman that had me hold a vial of certain substances and if she pushed my arm down then I couldn’t tolerate it. I learned it was more than foods with me, but food additives. Also, we did it with the baby, I held her in my lap and she put the vial in her shirt and pushed my arm down. Ahh… the things we do to help them. She failed the corn which was the make up of neocate so I switched it to soy.
I hope he feels better soon and you get some well deserved sleep! Wish we all lived close so we could take turns helping each other!

InactiveSarah, You’re talking about a kinesiologist? I think

Yeah! I’ve heard of that and thought that would be great for Henry. Can’t seem to find one that’s reputable around here. I even asked my chiropractor if he’s ever heard of any around. He didn’t.
How do you know who you choose is good?
