InactiveAfter a long terrible struggle with reflux and feeding aversions…Noah started drinking his bottle without drama….28-32 oz of 30 cal a day Elecare.
He’s on zegerid. We’re trialing periactin (not working). I mean he never really got onto solid food entirely, but he ate some. At least there wasn’t as much drama with his bottle. Then suddenly around 13 months he just started reducing his food and bottle consumption, it was 20 oz a day for a while, then he went down to low teens. Now he would eat under 10 oz a day and a bite or two of food if I didn’t dream feed him and offer after salty foods, and use tricks like that. But even still, he’s at maybe 14 oz a day. He’s lost about a pound in a month. He’s very active. Seems like he’s so happy not eating.
I thought we were beating reflux. Things were so terrible during his infancy, from maybe 2 to well, he was never normal. But he isn’t vomiting whole feeds, or spitting up, or making that terrible refluxing noise. He seems fine now. He just is not eating or drinking suddenly. He isn’t sick. This happened gradually. I feel like we avoided the tube for so long, and now we might end up with it anyway. Has this happened to anyone? Is there anything I can do? Anything that helped your kids?
Note: His stomach seems slightly distended. We have eryped for delayed emptying we put him back on, but he was off it for months drinking much much more so I don’t think thats the problem. Plus….it isn’t helping this time. Any ideas?

KeymasterI forgot about carafate! until I searched for you:here’s more to help:June 13, 2011 at 11:20 am #68516Anonymous
InactiveUpdate: tried carafate. No luck.
He will apparently guzzle water from a cup, but when I put formula in it won’t drink it. Also won’t eat food. Could this be more of a stomach thing than a throat thing?

KeymasterIt might be time for an endoscopy? see what’s going on in there? look for irritation, eos cells (would tell if there’s allergy), esopogeal thrush…
