InactiveFrom what I understand it is possible to give Prevacid OTC capsules broken open to baby with applesauce or Pedialyte.
My son does good when I dose him based on the Marcikids dosing instructions unfortunately two GI specialists I have seen wanted to drop me down to 7.5 once a day when I am currently perscribed 7.5 twice a day & I have actually been giving three times a day. When he gets it three times he does great. I am just scared for when I run out of solutabs too early.
So my question is can I give the OTC version of Prevacid only during the days that I don’t have solutabs or do I have to stick with one or the other? Also if this is so easy with OTC then why don’t more Moms do it who need their baby to be on more meds or why do they choose bufferbabies instead? Thank you for any replies.

Keymasteryou can use the various forms of prevacid throughout the day.
moms DO give the OTC capsules, but the reason they like to go for bufferbabies (it’s available now, but it’s called something else) because then you do not have to time around meals. with zegerid (has drug prilosec in it) and also with using a OTC (or rx) prevacid or prilosec w/ the products, you don’t have to time around meals- you can give at any time…w/ the capsules and the solutabs you must give on an empty stomach, follwed by a ‘meal’ 30 minutes laterMarch 30, 2012 at 9:09 am #70140Anonymous
InactiveOh I see. So could I use the bufferbabies (or whatever it’s called now) with the solutabs, when I run out I mean & then start the tabs again when I can get Rx?
I’m trying whether or not I want to try BB. My son did have tummy/gas problems when he started Prevacid solutabs but I think it has gone away because when I stopped the rice cereal in bottle his gas pains went away too but I know it was from the Prevacid before when he first started them. He is also MSPI so I wonder if I should try a different PPI with BB.
I really appreciate you answering. I see that you have answered a lot of new questions & that you don’t even need the site anymore. That’s really nice & super helpful for us newbies!

InactiveOne more thing I’ve been curious about…Do you have to feed 30 mins later because sometimes my baby falls asleep after his meds & he doesn’t eat for like an hour or sometimes more. Just wondering if that mattered.

Keymastersolutabs cannot be used with any of the products.
capsules are used w/ the products.
feeding 30 minutes after getting solutabs or capsules that are not given w/ the products is important- it all has to do w/ buffers and the medicine getting through the system effectively- that’s why people (myself included) love the products- so the medicine is effective and not having to worry about timing/sleeping, etc…I’m still here because I cannot believe that after EIGHT years there are still doctors who don’t know this stuff!!here’s about the 30 Minute Rulehellbennt2012-03-30 21:24:55

InactiveWhat I was meaning was can I use the solutabs until I run out & then use BB (with OTC) or is it better to not mix it up like that? Is the BB website up again? I have the email of Kira to order but I need more info on the different products & stuff before I do & with no website it’s hard to understand it all.
I am extremely shocked that Doctors aren’t treating these poor babies right. It makes it even harder on us Mother’s because for me I didn’t know what to do or believe because we are just kind of trained to believe & trust dotors esp when I get a 2nd opinion & same responses. It seems like they just don’t get it. I’m glad that we have other options now like the BB & OTC & forums like this to get the info out there. Thanks again!jackie2252012-03-30 22:20:00

Keymasterit’s hard. arm yourself w/ research, educate yourself and then do what YOU feel/think/know is right.
I did all of that. I found this board. I researched. I told my ped GI about the products. Coincidentally, my ped GI did a fellowship/studied/did some time (sounds like prison!) at the U of Missouri where the caracream/bufferbabies originally came from- he wasn’t against it- it’s ‘just’ flavorings/a way to get the meds into baby- he LISTENED to me. He didn’t rx as high as I would have liked, but still went high (for that time! and there wasn’t OTC otherwise I most likely would have taken matters even more into my own hands). said ok when i said (didn’t ask) that I was giving zantac and prevacid at the same time (4 hrs apart). I knew my stuff and wasn’t too far ‘out there’ so he LISTENED. We were lucky! -
