InactiveHenry is almost 16 mths and weighs about 23 lbs. We have him off dairy exept for the walmart brand of pediasure. It’s lactose free.
Basically, it’s just to supplement him nutritionally. He’s a good eater in general.
My question is that he LOVES it!!! How many of these can he have in a day? He would drink them all day if I let him. Right now I just give him one a day.

Keymasternot sure…
I think I read somewhere that carnation instant breakfast or something like that made by carnation has the same ingredients and is less expensive?
anyway I think the thing to watch for is sugars…can you dilute what you’re giving him somehow? slowly add something else (rice milk? potato milk?) to it so that it’s not a can a day?

InactiveI just give him vanilla. He seems to like it better than the chocolate. Definitely not like his parents

****We don’t mind the expense of this, but I didn’t know if it was safe to give him more than one a day. The cans are about 8 ounces.
I happen to have some Carnation from before we cut out dairy and gluten. It has completely different ingredients. Interesting enough, the carnation has no fat where as the ped. drink has almost 12 gms. We needed to have more fat in Henry’s diet anyway. Another thing I noticed was the ped. drink doesn’t list the sugar content. I find that really odd. I’ll have to call the company to find out. Henry gets no other sugars in his diet. We struggle to keep his weight up.

InactiveI just spoke with our ped this afternoon regarding Kaitlyn’s weight gain. She is 13 months and take very minimal solids, he recommend increasing it to 2 bottles of pediasure. He actually says that we can drop a bottle of formula to replace with pediasure to help her gain more weight.

InactiveI have been doing some research on Pediasure since I am thinking of adding it to my son’s diet in lieu of formula (still on Alimentum at 18 months but eats some dairy and a good table food eater). I can’t find any guidelines on the Pediasure website when used as a supplement but some of the other pediatric nutrition drinks (with the same ingredients) say 1-3 a day as a supplement and all of the websites say 34 oz. as sole nutrition in children ages 1-6. If he is eating good on top of the Pediasure, I would stick with one a day. You don’t want him to fill up on it and slack off eating but if you do think he needs a little extra, two would probably be ok. Maybe call your ped. to find out??
