pepcid complete vs zantac

My daughter takes 2ml’s of zantac before bed. I hate that it has alcohol in it and I read that people are using pepcid complete. Is this OTC and is it for kids? If its adults, how much do they get to equivelent the zantac dose? I think I would rather use this stuff. Thanks for any help.

I think it’s a chewable like TUMS. From what I’ve read about it I’d try it too. It contains both an acid reducer (to reduce acid immediately) and an antacid to prevent further acid production.

2 mL = 30mg Zantac, 7.5mg Zantac = 1 mg Pepcid, 30/7.5=4
therefore, I would give 1/2 of a standard Pepcid complete which would be about 5 mg Pepcid
You shoucl be able to break it in half by putting pressure (with your thumbs) on the outer edge of the tablet and it will break roughly in half.

The Pepcid complete works well, I would give 5mg Pepcid complete.

does anyone know how i would give pepcid to a 7 month old? and is there a big price difference between that and zantac?

I’m not sure what would be cheaper. I’m just happy to find something without the alcohol.

Oh no, I just read it contains lactose. Sophie is MPI. Should I not use it?? DARN IT!

Another option may be the Zantac Efferdose. It’s a dissolvable tablet like Prevacid.

Or, maybe liquid Pepcid (available by prescription). I don’t know if that contains alcohol or not, but you could ask.

I’m pretty sure Nataliachick7 said she was able to get her pharmacist to prepare Zantac without the alcohol.

lactose may or may not affect mspi…

it’s in the prevacid solutabs & doesn’t bother all mspi babies…

also: can someone ‘translate’ the above dosing? lol!

milk protein intolerant isnt related to lactose, its related to the milk protein.

Did you want the pepcid thing translated from Dr. P? I told him Sophie took 2mls of zantac before bed, so he was telling me how much pepcid to give! LOL

Sorry to arrive late on the thread. I use the efferdose and highly recommend it. Not sure what else is in it but I find it much easier to give and Alana doesn’t react to it at all ( she seems to be more irritable if I give her the syrup- maybe she reacts to the alcohol). She used to suck it out of a bottle, but know I just put it in a larger dropper and she sucks it out of that.

Is there anyway to got the efferdose in the tablet form? I talked to the pharmacist about getting the Zantac without the alcohol, and he said that it was made in suspension…Brianna always reacts badly to medication in suspension…just wondering…I hate that she has the alcohol…but it has helped so much adding that before she naps(only once a day) and before bed…maybe I could try the pepcid complete as well

Kaelyn takes zantac efferdose. It comes in a little foil packet. We just tear it open and drop it in at least a teaspoon of water. She hates the taste though, so we have to give it to her in some drinkable yogurt. I don’t think the taste is bad, but she is currently in a toddler phase where anything new is yucky.

Alex was on pepcid and it was much more expensive than zantac. Also, it was compounded, so we felt like it became unstable towards the end of the month.
