Hi, I’ve just been reading through some posts, and I’m reading that older kids are allowed higher doses of Pepcid? Is this right? I always understood that it was only 1mg/kg body weight daily. My 3 yo is on it before bed (along with 20mg Losec which she is currently refusing to take – posted about that also), and I didn’t think I could give her more than 15mg daily (since she weighs 15kg). Am I wrong?
I am not sure about that but did want to know if you have tried anything like tums or rolaids? I know that our doctor said when our son could chew well enough that we could try tums when he has some reflux.
I don’t know about the Tums, they wouldn’t be as strong as Pepcid I don’t think. This isn’t just for occasional reflux, she takes it along with a PPI, she just takes the Pepcid before bed to help with breakthrough acid overnight. SHe’s been having trouble recently at night, we’re having trouble increasing her PPI so thought maybe instead we could increase the Pepcid, but I’ve never heard of anyone taking more than 1mg/kg daily.
