InactiveIt’s been awhile since I have posted anything. Things have been pretty depressing here. Alexis is doing well except she is getting strep throat again which this past one is not going away with antiboitics. So the MDs think I am the carrier and I have an appt with the ENT today for an evaulation to get my tonsils out. Taylor did very well on the first 3 days of Neocate and Prilosec. Well of course that was the honeymoon period, I gave it more time but now we are back at square one. She gets hungry every 3 hours and cries when a bottle is put in her mouth, she use to drink the 1st oz without problems but now she is not even doing that. She is also having problems pain with gas and pain constipation with bowel movements. She is always pushing for a BM before and during feedings, I have used suppositories on her and the amt of stool that comes out of her is amazing! Even if she is helped with a large amt of BM prior to a bottle she still pushs for a BM during feedings. Her sucking skills are still not very good. She use to be able to drink 3 oz without any crying when she was asleep but lately not anymore. The only way I can get her to drink over a 30-45 min period is holding her in my arms boucing on an excerise ball with the bottle in her mouth and my finger applying gentle pressure to her chin and most of the time I have to move the nipple in and out of her mouth to get her suck once. I just don’t get what is going on. She sleeps great, it is only during feedings that she has a fit. We have another appt with the GI next Wednesday, I just don’t know what to except. Has anyone else gone through this or any advice to ask the GI, I am at a complete loss!

InactiveWhat you describe sounds exactly like my first daughter when she would get an ear infection. The sucking hurt so much that she wouldn’t suck anymore. She never ran a fever or had any trouble sleeping, just wouldn’t drink. Would suck then scream -no other classic signs of an ear infection. Don’t know if that is what is wrong with Taylor but it may be worth looking into.
Hope it gets better!!

InactiveSue,
I’m sorry to hear that you are having such a hard time with Taylor. Has she had her sucking evaluated by an SLP? I hope that things improve for her (and you, and Alexis) soon.

InactiveThe only way I could feed Ellie when she was suffering from reflux was to swaddle her, and walk around the house holding the bottle in her mouth. It was horrible. She was on Zantac and it just wasn’t helping her. Maybe Taylor needs a higher dose of Prilosec or a different PPI. I hope your GI will have some solutions and I’m sorry you are going through this. It’s so hard.

InactiveThe speech therapist tried feeding her as well without any luck, she cried the entire time turning bright red. She suggested that we follow up with the GI first to rule other things out prior to another evaulation since she too feels like there is something physical going on causing the problems. I honestly don’t mind bouncing on the ball with her but it just takes so long and it is not a guarentee feed, the strange thing is nobody else can feed her, my husband tries and does the same thing with the bouncing and she just cries and cries. It is so frustrating, he’s willing to help feed her since it is the most stressful time but she won’t even let him!

InactiveSue,
Hailey wouldn’t let my husband feed her either. To this day, I’m the only one who’s been able to feed her (and as you know, even that’s hit or miss). It can make things quite a bit harder on you, so hopefully is your husband keeps trying, he can find his feeding groove with her. Good luck. I hope that she gets over this soon.
