InactiveSo my GI recommended trying Alimentum instead of Nutramagin and gave me both powder and RTF. The twins seem to do better on the RTF. Is there a difference? The powder still caused them alot of gas pains but the RTF they barely had gas at all. Does that even make sense? I just called WIC and they cover the RTF for Alimentum, thank god! Also I had to go back to the nutramagin until I could get a wic appointment, and also to see if it really did make much of a change. No Logan won’t eat at all! Dakota barely eats. They just gag and choke. But with the Alimentum, they ate bettter than they have since when the reflux first started. I am confused. I thought the alimentum and nutramagin were pretty much the same thing. Same with powder vs RTF? Can anyone shed some light? Maybe share some experiences if you have had the same situation?

InactiveI’ve heard lots of people say that they had better luck on the RTF – I’m sure some will post here. Owen has been great on the powder for alimentum but when we tried nutramigen – look out! Projectile puking each time we tried, and he never did that normally. He’s now been on Alimentum for over a year and has done really well with it – I’m convinced that it was what really made the difference for him.
Good luck! I can’t imagine doing this with two little guys. You deserve an award!

InactiveI read on one of the formula manufacturer’s websites (I don’t remember which brand) that if constipation is a problem when the child is on the powder version that one should try the RTF. Although, that information doesn’t directly have anything to do with your problem, that tells me that SOMETHING has to be different in the digestion process between the powder and the RTF.

InactiveI noticed with my son that he always did worse when I used powdered fomual!! I was so confused about it until my friend who works in the baby dept at a retail store said she hears this all the time from mom’s. Our combined theories about it is that the powder is somewhat thinner in consistency when mixed, than the RTF. (Actually she called the formula companies and they agreed that the powder makes a thinner formula than the RTF). Also, when you mix powdered formula you have to shake it so much and air bubbles get into the formula and the baby probably swallows some of that air – which may explain some of the gassiness. I hate to pay so much more, but I stick with the RTF now.
I’m happy to hear that the boys do better on the Alimentum and that WIC covers the RTF. Finally some good news

How are you doing?

InactiveWe only use RTF Alimentum too. I once compared the ingredients and they
were not the same. I forget what the difference was but it was pretty
noticeable. The powdered smells much worse too.March 29, 2006 at 5:06 pm #4927hellbennt

InactiveI think that the RTF does not have corn in it so babies that have problems with corn handle it alot better.
