KeymasterI would try zantac along with the zegerid to start. I’d start with the highest amount of zantac for Justice’s weight.
Then, I’d consider diet. Remind us where you are/were with it?
Next, I’d try & get to see a ped GI (again I forget your story, sorry
! you probably tried to find one & wound up staying w/ the ped bcse the ped gave the zegerid…ok so next I’d contact Dr. Philips and ask about prevacid in caracream, rather than the zegerid…
I forget, have you tried carafate?

Inactivei would do the diet as well… it seems to really help a lot of the moms. i know shane has been different since the alimentum, so i would give it a try… probably before switching meds.. unless you cant wait.
i know what its like , we did both switches at the same time as well.. but i guess if you could wait than do the diet first.. ? * and both of your new pics are soooo cute!i think God made reflux babys extra cute…

Inactiveyou are not kidding about God making reflux babies cute!
With the diet I am doing no dairy, soy, or beef. I am not looking at labels too much so I’m sure there is some hidden stuff getting in. I’m not sure if soy is even a problem for him, but i stay away from it. I kept a food journal and come to find out I also can not tolerate dairy or beef. I had no idea. I just got sick all the time, but didn’t know why. I did try the full elimination diet for a week. I gave up after not seeing any and I do mean any improvement. I had been dairy, soy, and beef free for a few months before I started the elim diet. I know it takes a good 2 weeks to see results and boy I wish I would’ve stuck with it. I am thinking about doing it again after we get back from Christmas.
As far as a specialist goes I have been to two and they were of no help at all. I felt his ped did a better job listening and taking action. Both of the specialist were at our teaching hospital which is supposed to be the best, but every time we have been there for everything they have been horrible. We have had 2 good experiences. That hospital also did all of Luke’s tests that didn’t help at all. Because of all of this I have a hard time trusting doctors. I like Justice’s ped, but she does the same thing every other doc does for reflux. Zantac. I think I could talk her into doing some zantac with the Zegerid, but how do I know what dose to give him? I will check your intro Laura. i think it might be there. If not where can I find the dosing info for zantac?

Keymasterok since you’re already mostly ‘there’ w/ the dairy & soy, I think what I’d do is start trying to check labels and rule out hidden ingredients also, just for 2 weeks. If there’s no improvement, then you can go back to not checking labels…just a thought? I’d keep avoiding those proteins that are effecting you, just as you are…
as for zantac: it’s 5-10mgs per kilo. if you give me justice’s weight I can help you calculate so you can just request the zantac from the ped how you want it…did justice take it ok? the liquid zantac I mean? because if not, there’s the effervescent dose to ask for while you’re at it

does anyone know if there is a major price difference with the effervescent zantac? just wondering if my medicaid would cover that for Trace.

InactiveHi Shelby- I have posted elsewhere about my love of the Zantac/PPI combination. Neither really controls Alana’s reflux 100% on its own- and she is nowhere near as severe in symptoms as a lot of mums describe. I would give it a go- with the max dose like Laura suggested.
Alana does much better on the effervescent tablets than the syrup- when I give the later she seems to get a bit crampy in the stomach, not sure if it is the alchohol or not. The effervescent tablets are citrus flavoured, not to bad actually

InactiveNatalia- don’t know re the price in US but here in Aus it is about the same. There is also a study I have found on the internet, where they have found children prefer the taste of the effervescent
. They didn’t include babies our kids ages but I guess we could extrapolate

InactiveChristine – Here’s some family advice that should make you laugh. My best friend leaves her daughter with her Mother-in-law everyday while she works. This women is very “old school” and whole heartedly believes a lot of the old wives tales.
My favorite is: “Don’t tickle Bailey. It will make her stutter!” This woman truly believes that!
“Ceiling fans make babies have seizures”
“Direct air from a fan will make a baby have asthma”My best friend is already pretty neurotic about several things when it comes to her daughter…and pair the kooky grandma with it…this poor girl is going to be living in a plastic bubble! LOL!

InactiveThe advice that drove me absolutely NUTS when Myles reflux was so bad was, “He’s throwing up because you (meaning me) are tense.
He senses your stress so he gets tense and throws up.”
So, how come he just stopped puking one day? He outhgrew his reflux or I calmed down???December 12, 2006 at 10:20 pm #20219Anonymous
InactiveJustice at this point weighs 20 lbs. I can’t remember if anyone else asked any questions. By the way, have I told you ladies recently how much I appreciate you? You have really helped me through this day. Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day.
With my first son I remember my step dad trying to force my son to drink all of his bottle. First of all I don’t believe in the clean plate rule or in that case clean bottle. Anyway, I told him if Luke didn’t want it to just let him be. We all know a reflux baby shouldn’t get over full. Well, sure enough he got over full and puked and cryed. Poor baby. Needless to say my step dad never did that again. He finally believed me about the reflux. Funny enough he is the one that told me he thought he had reflux, but didn’t really believe it until he saw it for himself. My mom was the same way. She came to take care of him. A mistake I will never make again. Any who when I got home she said this baby really hurts.
Oh really you think! That is another reason it is hard to have a reflux baby because noone understands it or belives it. Oh one more I tryed to have a home birth with Luke and everyone said that is why he had reflux. Those aren’t funny ones, but just some examples. December 12, 2006 at 10:24 pm #20221Anonymous
Inactiveyeah i know what you mean! everyone asked me “are you sure he’s not just colicky?”
and they basically told me that almost all babies spit up, and that it was normal, and that he wasnt in pain.
gosh it made me so mad!
one day a great aunt asked if she could feed him (before he was on meds) and i finally gave in, and in the middle of the feeding she goes “my he is a fussy eater!”

InactiveIsn’t the world just an amazing place, where so many people think they know everything
. One of the lessons I have learnt is I am never, ever, ever offering anyone advice ever again! This may be a bit harder than it sounds given I am a psychologist
.Re zantac.
20Lb is approx 9 kilos. Max dose is 10mg per kilos, so he can about about 90 mg.
I am lucky with Alana’s nice head of hair- for now- can’t wait until she is on solids though- I am sure after she eats and runs her fingers through her hair- I will be washing it at every meal!!!!

There is 15mg in 1ml of syrup (if bottle says 150mg to 10ml). So he can have approx 6 mls a day.
With the effervescent tablets its pretty much the same- 150mg to a tablet (these are the ones I have- I think you can get 300mg ones). Its a bit harder to work it out but its a bit of 1/2 tablet (Alana gets 1/2 tablet and her max dose is aroound 75mg)
Know maths isn’t my strongest suit- so if anyone notices my calcs are out please chime in!
