InactiveI have a 7 week old girl with reflux. Tried Zantac for the last two weeks; it seemed to help but then she got really bad last 3 days–not sleeping more than 1/2 hour and spitting up everything. Ped switched to Prevacid (at our request). How long for it to kick in? Also, I am breastfeeding and occasionally supplementing with formula–Good Start. I was thinking I should also switch to soy formula as I have eliminated dairy from my diet.

Keymasterit can take up to 14 days to see the full effect of the prevacid, so I would continue with the zantac until you see the prevacid working- make sure you space the meds 4hr apart
also check out that you’re giving the prevacid correctly (there’s a post in the medicines fprum at the top called ‘treating GERD w/ PPIs- scroll down to the purple post, Prevacid 101, to find the link about when/how to administer prevacid) & also check out the prevacid dose http://www.marci-kids.comas for breastfeeding, I’m always curious as to why people supplement
– just being nosey not judgemental
…anyway I would say to cut soy out of your diet too & see if it makes a difference, bcse something like 40% of babies who have difficulties w/ milk proteins have difficulties with soy proteins…I have A LOT to say, so go to the Introduce Yourself Forum and click on ‘Groupie intro’ – it’s the top post
so glad you found us!~lauraAugust 9, 2007 at 7:46 pm #40782Anonymous
InactiveDon’t worry about being nosy! We’re supplementing at night so I can sleep–I’m exhausted and am not pumping enough to always have plenty of breastmilk for my husband to give to the baby.
And thanks for the recommendation about the link–I checked that out and it was great!
So I should cut out soy, too? This is starting to seriously suck. I originally cut out the dairy b/c she was so gassy. She has been less gassy since I eliminated it, although not 100%.
Thanks for your help!

Keymastercan you feed the baby lying down so you can rest & breastfeed the baby at night? the http://www.peacefulpea.com/nursing_nest.html totally helped me to nurse at night!!! it’s a very ‘short-lived’ item, but I’m just going to lend it out to all my friends, LOL, bcse it helped me so much (& this was baby #2 & you wouldda thunk I would know how to breastfeed lying down by now
) just a thought…as far as cutting out soy, too, well I can’t tell you what to do, LOL. I did the elimination diet bcse I was desperate! it’s here: Groupie Intro: my intro: https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=853&PN=1&TPN=1
