InactiveMy 5.5 week old is starting Prevacid today after unsuccessful tries with zantac, rice & mylanta.
Rice was horrible for her! What time of day do you suggest she take the 1/2 solulable pil?lWhat ways have you administered it with success? (i put in 1.5 oz of nutramigen, but it seems she didn’t get it all)What other drugs CAN’T this drug interact with? How do you give in conjuction with zantac?TIAJanuary 24, 2010 at 10:47 am #65635Anonymous
InactiveI only have a second but I wanted to let you know that the solutabs MUST be given on an empty stomach followed by a meal 30min – 1hr later. It cannot be put into a bottle. The formula will degrade/break down the effectiveness of the medicine before it even has a chance to work!
How many mg is a 1/2 solutab? Many times babies are UNDER-dosed and need more…check out http://www.marci-kids.com They have a cool dosing calculator that you can use to help figure out the dose she should be getting.Good luck. HTH! Sorry, gotta run!January 24, 2010 at 10:47 am #65636Anonymous
Inactiveoh yea and make sure you space the prevacid and the zantac FOUR HOURS APART or else they counter-act each other.

InactiveThank you so much! Marci says :
Your child, who is 1 months old and weighs 4.1 kg, should receive a dose of 6 to 8 mg of Prevacid delivered 3 times per day for a total of 18 to 24 mg per day.The recommended amount for each dose can be safely rounded up to the nearest available dosage form (7.5 mg) without risk of overdose or side effects (Example: A recommended dose of 6 mg given 3 times per day should be rounded up to 7.5 mg given 3 times per day, for a total of 22.5 mg per day).
Prevacid 15 mg Solutabs (lansoprazole) are scored and can be broken into two halves, each containing 7.5 mg of lansoprazole.Prevacid Solutabs should be administered on an empty stomach and 30 minutes to 1 hour before a full meal.GI said to take just 7.5 mg per day, this says to take it 3 times per day & he didn’t tell me about 30 min rule.Still wondering how to adminster it?? Do I just put it in her cheek & let it dissolve?January 24, 2010 at 11:13 am #65638Anonymous
InactiveI did a quick search of this site (“search” is at top of page) and here is what I found for giving solutabs (we never used them)
solutabs– you can either ‘just’ hold it in the inner cheek lining of the baby until it dissolves and wash it down w/ some water, or you could take the solutab and just mix enough water to get it to a consistancy that you can get into baby- from paste consistancy to a liquid- but you don’t *need* to use 4ml of water…I figured the 7.5mg dose would be too low…do you think your doc would agree to the 18-24mg? Sometimes it’s hard to convince them but that marci-kids website has a TON of great information and research you could show to your doctor.

Keymastercontinue w/ the zanatac, too.
and my educated guess is that there is room for increase w/ the zantac, too, given that your dr rx’d a low dose of prevacidkeep on the zantac, making sure to give 4hrs seperate from the prevacid, for a good two weeks or LONGER – until you can SEE that the prevacid is working. how can you tell? it was day 12 for my son and it was OBVIOUS.
ok here’s the zantac dose- do not ‘just’ take my word on this! read here:
https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=8288&PN=1max dose for zantac is 10mgs per kilo
so you say your baby is 4.1kgs
so 4.1 x 10 = 41
that’s 41mgs total for the day of zantac
“but wait! my zantac is liquid and it is in MLs, not mgs!”
so: look at your zantac bottle, it will have on it 15mgs/ml
this means that for every one (1) ml of liquid zantac you give your baby, there is 15mgs of the medicine zantac in the 1ml.
so: divide 41 by 15 to find out how many mls to give =
2.7mls, total for the day, of zantac divided into two doses
you can give ‘uneven’ doses
for example: 1ml in the am and 1.7 mls in the pmJanuary 24, 2010 at 3:57 pm #65641Anonymous

Keymasterif you do not see results after two weeks w/ the ‘low’ dose you can then TELL the dr you need the rx increased- you can FAX dr
stick to the
facts (no feelings and no rambling emotions)state
current meds, doses, symptomsmake
request- flat out- short & sweetfollow up by
calling office to say fax was sentsample fax: https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=10633&PID=90325#90325
About faxing the doctor
(& more): https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=2841&TPN=1
or you can try giving the higher dose on your own, see the amazing results, then TELL the dr that you increased it and how fabulous baby is doing…
(disclaimer: I am not a medical professional and cannot tell you to administer medicine to your baby that your dr does not know about
