InactiveI saw in the circulars today that the Prevacid 15 mg. capsules will soon be available OTC. I think this is great but wondering if the insurance companies will now try to not cover the solutabs since the capsules will be cheaper.

InactiveI’ll have to check with my husband to see if this is true. I thought they stopped making the capsules?

KeymasterI heard the advertisement when I was at CVS on Friday…I didn’t hear what form it was, just that it was going OTC…
maybe ‘they’ can still rx solutabs bcse they dissolve, ie ok for infants.
the capsules I suppose could be argued that they could be used w/ infants, but if they make a tablet (not solutab), like prilosec OTC then you wouldn’t be able to use THAT w/ an infant…if it IS capsules that are coming out, then you could use them w/ bufferbabies/caracream….November 9, 2009 at 2:27 pm #64481Anonymous
InactiveForgot to ask Dh and of course he is at work, but I just did a quick google and it looks like it will be called Prevacid 24hr ( it will be a delayed release capsule) and it comes in 15mg capsules… Maybe this is a good thing.. mix with alittle applesauce and give and then wait 30-60 min to feed? and Maybe we will only have to give it 1x/day or as Laura said mix it with bufferbabies/caracream… sure would be great if it ends up being cheaper than the prescription (we were lucky it cost us only $30/month for 30mg/day) as for most it is really expensive. I will try my best to remember to ask him tonight… it looks like it will be available on Friday the 12th!!!

InactiveOh no! I hope this doesn’t affect solutabs & rock my schedule/world :)… for Evan’s sake (since he’s still on 30mg/day of solutabs) but also for the new baby. Same as you Beth we don’t pay *that* much for 30mg per month. It used to be $30 but then they restructured dh’s company insurance & it’s now $50 (since it’s a ‘premium’ brand & no generic available)…
Let us know Beth!

Inactivehehehe.. for once I know something medicine related before my husband… He hadn’t heard it was going OTC but I told him it was the capsules and he said that as long as the solutabs aren’t going otc then they should still be covered by insurance especially since they are marketed for peds pts and not adults so hopefully everyone will be in the clear.. And Erin if for some reason you can’t get them covered, you could always use the capsules with some of whatever acidic food he can tolerate and then do the timing thing.. but they should be covered!
