Prevacid Not Working!!! What's Next?

My 4 month old baby girl has been on Prevacid for 3 weeks now. The first week she was on 7.5 mg and the last two weeks on 15 mg. She is picking up more weight but she’s still refluxing (silently). When Prevacid doesn’t work…what do doctors turn to next? I’m waiting for the GI to call me.

what does http://www.marci-kids.com say the dose should be?

if baby is at max dose of a PPI (prevacid, prilosec, nexium, protonix), then diet is looked at next.

are you breastfeeding or formula feeding? if formula, which one?

how is gas? lots of stinky gas? how about stools?

Does she seem uncomfortable? Prevacid won’t stop her from refluxing but it will jsut make it less painful, it reduces the acid in the stomach. When my DD was that young I would hear the liquid constantly coming up and down. My DD hardly ever laid flat, we had to keep her elevated all the time, even during diaper changes.

So what helped her are Prevacid, Alimentum RTF, Tucker Sling, burping, no tight-fitting clothes on the stomach or waist area (even diapers), no jostling the baby esp after feedings.

Thank you for the feedback! I am breastfeeding. What should I cut out of my diet?

She does have some stinky gas. I wouldn’t say lots. She won’t take a bottle so we aren’t able to give her any formula. She does seem uncomfortable at night, she gets up every 1-2 hours if we have her laying flat. We just started using the nap nanny and she went from getting up every couple hours to almost sleeping through the night. Such a difference! But I know that the reflux is still there b/c if she is laying flat she’s fussy.

I’ve tried the marci site but my computer won’t let me do the calculator. What would they say about a 4 month old that is 13 and a half lbs?

13 & 1/2 lbs = 6.1kilos

1.5 x 6.1 = 9.15

9.15 x 3 = 27.5mgs of prevacid, total, for the day

My daughter is not tolerating Zegerid at all. We have tried the 20mg and the 40mg with a buffer. We have also tried prevacid. We are going to try Nexium. Has anyone used Nexium for their infant? My daughter is 5 months old.
