InactiveI was wondering how many of your little ones are on the packets? Aidan was put on them at 2 months and had a very bad reaction, his reflux came rageing back, hoarseness, congestion..and it went away as soon as we switched back to the solutabs…I am thinking about trying the packets again since he is older…i t would be so great if they worked..they are all our insurance will pay for and the tabs are getting expensive….just looking for any negative or positive reactions the kids had to them…

InactiveJill,
I’m sorry I don’t have an answer for you, as I just recieved my dd’s script
for these prevacid packets (she takes Zantac presently), and dd is just a
couple weeks younger than yours. I have three questions about them
too.
1. Directions from MD are to give 1/2 the packet QD. Directions on lable
are to mix 1 packet in 2 TBS water. Rather than trying to divide the
powder in half to mix in 1 TBS H2O (powder is just too fine), I’d like to
mix the whole packet as directed and give her half. But the drug info
states that the solution must be taken immediately, meaning I would have
to just toss the 2nd half of mix.
So, is this true; that I cannot give her the other half the next day, but must instead mix a whole other packet
and throw out half of that one as well?
2. So either way I have to give my 4 mo old a tablespoon of medicine
which really seems like too much volume for her. Can I mix it with less
water and still have it be effective (I read on an other site that one can do
that with Zegrid)?
Or does anyone have experience giving dc this much at this age? Was it ok?
3. 7.5mg once a day for a 7 kilo kid. Is this enough?
Any help would… well…help!

Inactivewhat I did when Aidan was on them was to mix them with a TON of water so I could see the white granules (the actual medicine the rest is just flavoring) and I would spoon feed him only the granules (he HATED the flavor it was to harsh on his tummy) As to the division of them thing, I was also told to divide it in half, but either way you do it, mixing it first THEN dividing it, or dividing it before you mix it, there’s no guarentee that they are getting exactly half each time (my dr said as long as they got the full dose in a day it doesn’t matter if one dose is higher than the other, It’s still 7.5 mg a day)

InactiveThe way I used to give my twins the packets was to mix it in 2 tablespoons of water than put 1 tablespoon in a bottle. I have small bottles from the NICU so they are perfect, but any bottle will do. Than I took a y cut nipple and cut the “points” off…so you can actually see a whole. My twins sucked it right down no problem and they got all the granules. They seemed to really like the taste, I called it their strawberry daquri.
