Prevacid Question

I have a question about Prevacid – I posted under my original question that my 7 week old son was put on 15 mg once a day (in the am). We are on day 8 adn still waiting for it to make a big difference. My question is – what kind of differencce shoudl it make? He gags in his sleep adn sometimes wakes choking – will that go away completely or only get better? He also arches when he lays on his ack – is that also supposed to go away? I didn’t knwo if all of this shoudl stop or if he just won’t be in pain from it all anymore…

I would elevate where your baby sleeps, so he’s not flat on his back. we could do this with our crib- just elevate one side- but if your crib cannot do this, people have put the crib on blocks/books and also have put rolled towels/blankets under one side of the mattress

the arching should stop, or at the very least, lessens a lot

are you giving the medicine on an empty stomach?

the meds help with the pain, not the actual spit-up, although some babies do decrease their spitting up

Hi Gianna,

When is Xavier experiencing the worst of his symptoms? The reason I ask is because Sophia’s were waaaay worse at night. So, someone told me (probably on here) to give her the medication 2 hours before the worst of her symptoms, which started around 8pm. So, I give her the prevacid at 6pm on an empty stomach, feed her 30 minutes later and then she seems to do pretty well.

From what I gather, every baby’s reaction to the medication is different. For us, it took almost a full month before we noticed a major difference. I thought she was doing good early on with the medication and then she actually got worse than before. I remember crying when she was on day 29 of the medication, thinking, she’s been on it this long and it’s not any better! But then she turned the corner in a major way and is doing soooo much better.

Although, as I right this, she is crying, burping and hiccuping…generally miserable. But, it’s the first day we’ve had like this in a while, so I’m sure it’s something I did that’s making her uncomfortable. I think, at least in our case, it’s not going to completely go away, but our quality of life is much, much better. 🙂
