Prevacid Solutabs

Good morning!

My son is on Prevacid Solutabs 1 x day, 15 mg. The ped told us to give them to him 30 mins before eating, which we have tried to do… but he sometimes falls asleep and does not eat for more than 30 minutes following the tabs.

Does anyone know if this will impact the effectiveness?

Giving the meds 30-60 min. before a feed is REALLY important. The medication will not work to it’s full effectiveness if you don’t. It’s really hard. We did solutabs for two months and it drove me nuts. Are you nursing? That makes it even harder!!! It was for me anyway. I would go to http://www.marci-kids.com and they will give you all the information about why it’s so important to give the meds on an empty stomach and follow up with a feed 30-60min later. Me explaining it would just make you more confused Me explaining things gets me confused sometimes!!! I bet one of the other mommies will chime in though with more specific information. Hang in there! It’s hard, but a happy baby on good meds is worth it!!!

Also: you will most likely want to try splitting the dose into 2 or even 3 doses given over the course fo the day, because baby’s have very fast metabolisms

Thank you both veyy much – this is fantastic information. We see the ped GI next week, and until then, I am going to cut his dose into 2 parts and give him half in the AM and half in the PM! Maybe the GI will also adjust his dosage – according to the calculator on MARCI-Kids, he is way under dosed.
