InactiveMy 3 week old son has been prescribed prilosec packet. Is it ok to mix this in his formula and if so will this affect the 30 minute rule. Otherwise, what would I mix it in for such a young infant?
Any help is greatly appreciated! !

Keymasterwelcome!give on empty stomachmix powder w/ water- as much or as little as you can-it’ll be an experiment-less water will make a paste that you can use your finger and get it into his mouth and then wash it down w/ a skinny 1ml syringe or take the nipple off of a bottle & put water into that a little at a timeor you can mix more water so it’s not a paste but a liquid & syringe it into his mouth-this approach might be harder if he’s not ‘into’ gulping down large amounts of liquid-then wait 30 minutes and give bottle of formula thenis dose PROPER?please read

InactiveDr. prescribed 5mg once daily. My son weighs 8.2 lbs, so roughly 4kg. Doesn’t sound right and this is from gi specialist. Also, he told us to stop the zantac, which is not helping.

Keymasterdon’t stop the zantac! I learned the HARD WAY.
my son shrieked/howled so much he lost his voice! PITIFUL!
then I found this site & TOLD dr I was to give both. he didn’t argue…give zantac four hours seperate from the prilosec.it can take up to FOURTEEN days for you to see the results of the prilosec (and it’s a low dose). we saw results at day TWELVE it was THAT obvious.that’s why you should continue w/ the zantac.don’t just take my word on this.read.research.just bcse dr is a ped GI does NOT mean s/he is up to date. that’s why I cannot leave here, EIGHT YEARS later. there are STILL drs who don’t prescribe marci-kids dosing, etc.I have a LOT to say and most of it’s here, in a link called ‘groupie intro.‘
it’s looong but TRULY will help you- read through it, refer back to it, scroll through it/skim through it. You’ll find yourself coming back to it!
https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=853)I sound harsh. I’m ‘just’ passionate.I get frustrated knowing that there are drs who tell you things that aren’t necessarily the one & only way to do things…October 6, 2011 at 9:34 pm #69178Anonymous
InactiveThank you for all your replies. I actually think it is better to hear from someone who has been through it than just someone who follows textbooks, and I am actually an RN. I don’t always believe dr knows best and appreciate you taking the time to respond to my questions. I will try to let you know how it’s going and thanks again.

Keymasterno problem!
one more thing: are the packets ZEGERID?if so, then disregard my instructions!I would contact Dr Philips directly, he’s the one who was on the team that developed zegerid; they were at the U of Missouri (marci-kids is U of Missouri research team) and sold it to Santorus (sp?) who now sells it, etcemail dr philips Dr. Philips: phillipsjo@health.missouri.edu
and/or call the office: (573) 884-0672Dr Philips will answer your email & will even communicate w/ your ped GI, if need be…he will tell you EXACTLY how to administer zegerid packets!also:there’sLooking for GI: https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=660
there are recommendations for ped GIs in your area…
dr philips can also provide you/your ped GI w/ the latest research regarding PPI use and infants!October 6, 2011 at 9:55 pm #69180Anonymous
