InactiveHi all, It seems that not many babies here are on Prilosec suspension. I read that
it can degrade (possibly because of flavorings?) in 2 weeks but the
script is for 4.When my DIL got it they had only a short list of flavors to pick from, the pharmacy said others would do something to it.
Maybe only some flavors destabilize the Prilosec Suspension?
He is also on medicaid and they are paying for his Prilosec. I best go
look up what Masshealth (medicaid in Massachusetts ) pays for before I
start asking for things.Would it be out of order to get a presription that gives a refil every 2 weeks instead of 4?
Do insurance companies frown on this? I guess that would solve the degradation problem.
I also read that it might not have as much of a buffering agent and the med becomes inactive when in an acidic environment.
Can a compounding pharmacy make it with extra buffers I wonder?
One more thing. Elijah has been on the Prilosec susp.10 mg for one week
and will start taking another 10 mg dose at night . Today he kept
leaning his head to his right shoulder every few minutes for a while.Although he was not fussy,he was in his bouncer and a 3 yo was playing
with him as well as mom and me I so I don’t know if he was distracted
from any pain. What I am getting at is, the pedi GI said no to the pedcid with the
Priloce but after reading here that it can take weeks to work, I am
wondering if this is a Sandifer symptom (not one I have seen with him
before) that is manifesting because nothing is working on the aicd at
this point? He has been having acid attacks a few nights a week with the ensuing
crying in pain. But not many of the other Sadifers symtoms
screeching, arching back and red faced symptoms. Can pepcid and Prilosec be taken together? Not at the same
time, like Prilosec in the morning, pepcid in the afternoon and
Prilosec again in the evening. I have a feeling he needs to take the
pepcid until the prilosec is working (and correctly dosed)Anyone???

InactiveIt is definitely possible that he is refluxing. It does take 2 sometimes 3 weeks for it to really kick in and until it does it is considered uncontrolled reflux. We also were not allowed to use zantac or pepcid while waiting for protonix to work. We used a lot of mylanta and had a rough couple of weeks.
We get our protonix compounded for a 4 week supply. I know some frown upon this and say it doesn’t work after 2 weeks but we really don’t notice anything bad about it. Isaac refused to eat at all until his protonix was at the right dose. Now he is doing a lot better and is starting to eat alot again!

Keymasterhi there!
from my welcome/intro: https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=853&am p;PN=1&TPN=1
there’s a link called ‘Prevacid 101’
from that link, there’s info about all PPIs- look for the link that tells you HOW to ask for your PPI to be compounded–
it is not out of line to ask the doctor to ‘humour’ you and have the dr write the prescription for it to be compounded a certain way…
yes you can give a PPI and a drug like zantac/pepsid/axid – you must make sure they’re spaced at least 2 hours apart- my ped GI said 2 hrs while others’ ped GIs have said 4 or 5 hours, but yes there are others here that have posted, like myself, that their ped GI said it was ok to take both drugs…once the PPI dose is ‘right’ & ‘figured out’ then hopefully all the baby needs is the PPI…there is such a thing as ‘breakthrough acid’ and there’s info about this from my welcome/intro…
the posturing you describe might be Sandifer’s, as Sandifer’s can be posturing- it’s the body’s nerological reaction to pain…there’s links from my welcome/intro…
