InactiveWe cut back on Dagney’s prevacid almost 2 weeks ago, and things have been going really well. The only slight issue I’ve seen seems to involve bananas. My dh’s reflux flares from bananas, so it’s only logical that my dd’s could too–has anyone else noticed this? Sunday was the first time I ever gave her bananas (and again Mon & Tues), but we noticed that she was gurggling and making wierd throat noises again a little on Monday and more on Tuesday after dinner (when she had them). On Sunday she only had 2-3 spoonfuls, but Mon & Tues she had 1/2 jar each day of peaches & bananas mix. I stopped the bananas after Tuesday, and the symptoms seem to have stopped now too. Does this make sense, is this how fast things can affect and be fixed by giving or discontinuing foods?
We’re also supposed to be starting the transition to Nutramigen today, but I was going to hold off until at least tomorrow to make sure that the symptoms are gone.August 17, 2007 at 11:28 am #41281Anonymous
InactiveHi Denise,
Baby food bananas have citric acid which can cause problems for some reflux babies. Maybe try pureeing some bananas for her and see if she has the same reaction? I think peaches might have acid as well.August 17, 2007 at 4:58 pm #41290Anonymous
InactiveAdriana had a flare from banana at 6 months. Her dad is allergic also and his throat gets itchy.

InactiveDenise, I’ve been wondering about bananas too. Ben seemed to have tummy trouble when we gave them to him. I didn’t realize it at first, and was giving him the apricot mixed fruit with bananas in it. Then I tried just cutting them up for him, and while he LOVED to eat them, he was in so much pain later that day. When I cut them out, he got better very quickly… as you said.
I have since tried the apricot mix again yesterday and he had a rough day again… so… maybe it IS the bananas???August 17, 2007 at 10:16 pm #41307Anonymous
InactiveI think it is the bananas! I’m sorry Ben had problems with them, but it’s nice to know I’m not going crazy! My hubby can rarely eat bananas himself, he says they really affect his acid reflux. I’d avoided trying them with Dagney until now, but I guess I was feeling daring, and decided to give them a shot. Well, at least I can say we tried them! She seems to be doing fine now, so the Nutramigen transition will begin tomorrow! I hope sweet little Ben is doing better without those nasty old bananas! He looks so cute in his sun hat! I have to get a new pic of Dagney, the one I had on her ticker was so old, so I tried adding a new one & it was too big a file…oh well, maybe I’ll find a good one from the beach too!

Keymasterbananas are part of the latex family I do believe…so I think that people can be allergic/sensitive…

InactiveThat’s interesting. Bananas have always made my throat feel a little itchy. Especially really ripes ones.

InactiveYeah, me too. I get itchy lips (weird?) and throat when I eat bananas.
