Inactivehi, i went to the ped. today and mentioned how shane isnt taking too much liquids from his bottle anymore (he is losing weight) and is only having like 15 ounces a day. but he eats like a cow. well, he told me to give him 3 meals a day now of solids and to add his formula to them. and he also said to go ahead and add protiens to his babyfood, as in : the meals w/meat in them(#2’s), and he suggested some mashed up egg yolk.
soo my question is how did your babies who didnt tolerate milk/soy protiens do on other meats?? and any info on how to do the egg yolk (i am not really sure). and i read in a recent post that someone suggested brocolli for calcium, i think it was christine who suggesting it (not sure though), is shane too young for pureed brocolli? and what would i add to it?
thanks ~

InactiveBrianna loves her egg yolks…I just fry them with a little bit of olive oil and then I break them into little pieces. Brianna did pretty well with other meats, but to this day does not eat much of meat (unless it is in chicken nugget form
) I have never given her broccoli, but I wouldn’t think your son is to young…as long as you puree it. My friend made her own baby food and her daughter got cauliflower, and other things that aren’t normally in jarred baby food.December 20, 2006 at 9:26 pm #20821Anonymous
Inactivewould a hard boiled egg work for the the egg yolk better for his age? and than i guess i would blend it and add what to make it appeal better?
i guess with the protiens, i am not sure if a protien intolerance, includes all protiens and not just milk ones.. maybe there is no connection, i’m a little confused

Keymasterhmm…I hold off on proteins until about 9 months…what does the GI say?
as for pureeing things, I made a large percentage of Jonah’s babyfood. If meat is ok thaen surely broccoli is?
also: blackstrap molasses. very good & you can add it to foods like squash, cereal, etc. get creative
. it’s high in calcium & iron.from ‘groupie intro’ there’s a ‘section’ about what to feed your baby- check out the links for some great ideas
(the same links are in the MSPI forum from the Sticky there)I would try maybe lentils with veggies- make a stew/soup & then grind it up. I used a bit of everything, lol- mini cuisinart, baby food grinder, blender- whatever…

InactiveI puree Myles’ broccoli alone with a little water (it’s very dry so it won’t puree well if you don’t add a fair amount of water). I’ve been giving him broccoli since he was six months old. I used to mix it with some of his other baby foods until he got used to the taste, but he loves broccoli so much now that he’ll eat it plain.
I don’t know much about the proteins or protein sesnitivities, but I know I’ve read here that MSPI babies sometimes have problems with beef, so I’d probably avoid that.
I used to puree lentils and add about a teaspoon of it to his veggies. He tolerated them well, though they are a little gassy. He toots up a storm when he eats lentils!! (He eats real lentil soup now so I don’t puree them anymore).
Myles gave up his bottle (except one bedtime bottle) at 7 months of age, so I was doing exactly what your doc suggested. I added formula or breast milk to all of his purees.
I hope Shane starts gaining soon.

Inactivedo you know why myles gave up the bottle so early? sometimes i think maybe he doesnt like the taste of alimentum as much anymore as well because of all of the other yummy foods he’s been eating. or maybe that is my taste buds talking
