InactiveThose who have children with Sandifers, did they do the posturing such
as head to shoulder or looking up and back with the opposite
leg straight when they were NOT crying in pain?Elijah has done the head back, legs back, arch in back but he was always screaming.
I am just trying to figure out if I am really seeing Sandifers. He just
started to do the head to the shoulder thing, I mean within the past
few days and is in the middle of trying prilosec suspension which was
flavored TWICE. Although mom did not give pepcid the first week,
I told her to after learning that the PPI’s can take weeks to work and
now we are thinking it is totally destabilized. His symptoms are worse, been vomiting once a day and for a few days and
lots acid coming up into his throat, rubbing his ears, coughing when
the acid comes up, sounds “junky” at times, sneezing. Also has a clear nasal drainage. Has anyone seen their child have a clear runny nasal drainage from reflux?
This is the first time he has had ANY respiritory problems in the 7 months he has been alive.
I know the nose “runs” as a natural defense to try to get rid if
viruses, bacteria, allergies and mucous is suppose to help keep the
acid from harming the airways. We thought a cold at first, but with so much relfux we want to be sure
as this is now ANOTHER side effect of GER that is affecting him because
he is not being treated correctly. So, anyone..the Sandifers without crying and the clear mucous from acid?
Thanks

KeymasterI can answer about the Sandifer’s: yes, jonah would do the posturing w/o crying out in pain & it didn’t always relate to having just having eaten- it could be at any time…
as for the destabilization- I think I wrote to you about caracream? that’s all I can think of bcse it truly helped my baby…
For the drainage- I don’t know about it being acid related, but what I DO know is we are major saline fanatics around here! I truly believe this saved jonah from having to get tubes in his ears- I wrote about it here (look for the purple posts, LOL!): https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=2310

InactiveWe have used zegerid, another ppi med that you might have read about, there’s info on it at this site: http://www.marci-kids.com. It’s similar to the caracream taht Laura wrote to you about. A big thing with these gerd babies is getting their meds and doses of meds correct. We dealt with unstable ppi meds for a while and it was TOTAL misery. Better to know your baby is benefitting from their meds and then work with their symptoms knowing that fact, than to wonder, is the medication even working to begin with? Hope things improve.

InactiveIs he eating any solids??? We could never get the prevacid compounded right! Now we just our the beads in a tbs. of applesauce. Feed her the 3 spoonfuls and wait 30 mins before a bottle. You may also want to email Joel about getting some caracream samples so you don’t have to wait the 30 mins and compound it correctly yourself. I can’t beleive he is still suffering at 7 months. It will take a couple weeks to get into his system, when we had the switch we used zantac (like pepcid) spaced 2 hours apart until it fully kicked in. Also, like Laura suggested… saline spary works wonders. We used it all the time, Things are better now with the nasal symptoms since we got her on the right dose of ppi. We also had to put her in a sling/wege combo on an incline which helped with the nasal congestion too. Hope he feels better soon! It’s very tedious dealing with all the meds 24/7, he’s lucky to have such a caring grandma!

InactiveElijah gets rice cereal in his formula and eats some fruits and vegetables.
I am hoping we can get the caracream for him as we just found out his pharmacy uses Flavor Rx.
